Mods in gaming are a wonderful thing. They enhance the gameplay experience in more ways than one. This is no exception for mods in Baldur’s Gate 3. Whether it’s in regards to character customization or gameplay, there are a wide variety of mods available. The concern however is whether or not mods work in multiplayer. So do Baldur’s Gate 3 mods work in multiplayer? Well, let’s see for ourselves.

The answer to this question is a resounding yes. Baldur’s Gate 3 mods do in fact work when playing with friends. But, before a celebration is to be had there are some things that must be done first. Whenever a mod is downloaded you instantly have a different version of Baldur’s Gate 3 compared to everyone else. This means that you have items and features that aren’t present in the base game’s version. When you try to go online, your game will take you back to the main menu instantly. This renders you unable to play online unless they are uninstalled from the game’s files. If mods are what you want and you want to play them with friends there are some things that must be done.
In order to make mods work online, every single player in that session must download the exact same mods. Not only that but they also have to be the same version and placed in the same load order in whatever mod manager you use. For the easiest and cleanest process, it’s better to use the Vortex Mod Manager application that’s located on Nexus Mods. Before you play a session make sure that all your mods are updated and let your friends know to do the same. If a mod catches your eye, notify your friends to download it as well. If you do all of these steps multiplayer will work. The process itself isn’t difficult, but one small slip-up will ruin everything.

I’m not going to lie I’ve had issues w vortex too BUT I have also had issues w BG3MM, so I actually use both. Some mods seem to w better w one than another and often if a mod doesn’t work properly w one, I just uninstall it and use the other w no issue.
Vortex also works great for OTHER games, used it for years w many games, BG3 is actually just very very complex code wise
