During the 2024 Xbox Developer Direct, Obsidian Entertainment started the show with a deep dive into their newest RPG, Avowed. While the Avowed release date isn’t until the Fall of this year, Obsidian had much to show anticipating gamers. Here is the full breakdown of the Avowed Gameplay.
“Explore the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger. As an envoy of Aedyr, you are sent to investigate rumors of a spreading plague with a secret that threatens to destroy everything. Can you save the island and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them apart?”

Avowed will have 3 different types of combat to experiment with. Spellcasting, sharpshooting, and, of course, melee. In-game, players won’t be restricted to what kind of approach they want to take when fighting. Avowed allows gamers to combine different weapons, attacks, and abilities to give a more tactical feeling. Not all enemies will be the same, as some can possess more skill than others. For example, one fight can include giant brutish creatures, while others have shaman-like people who can heal enemies in range. The choice of who to prioritize is up to the player.
All load-outs can be customized and switched mid-battle. In the presentation, it appears there are no limitations on trying new weapon combinations. Players can use a traditional sword and shield, dual-wield magic wands, and more. The playstyle is up to the player.
The title will give gamers many opportunities to build their characters through quests with difficult decisions and “profound” consequences. Avowed takes pride in embracing moral nuances and gray areas, allowing players to make those complicated choices. Additionally, players will see those consequences take place.
While no specific release date has been made, Avowed has received a launch window of Fall 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, all available on day 1 for Xbox Gamepass subscribers.
