UMass football coach Mark Whipple suspended for saying Ohio ‘raped us’

Publish Date: September 30, 2018

UMass head football coach Mark Whipple has been suspended for one game for his postgame comments saying that Ohio’s defense “raped us” according to Matt Vautor of MassLive.

The Minutemen lost to Ohio 58-42 and Whipple made the comment during his complaints about the officiating. He will be suspended for one week without pay, while defensive coordinator Ed Pinkham takes over coaching duties for the week.

Athletic director Ryan Bamford and Whipple released a statement that was shared on the UMass Athletics Twitter page.

UMass plays USF this Saturday in the lone game that Whipple will be suspended for. Whipple will also have to attend sensitivity training.
