Rob Gronkowski Announces Retirement

Publish Date: March 24, 2019

New England Patriot tight end Rob Gronkowski has announced his retirement via social media on Sunday evening.

His statements on retiring can be found in the following tweet.

Gronkowski, 29, is a nine-year NFL veteran who finishes his career with 521 receptions for 7,861 yards and 79 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl five times and won the 2014 AP Player of the Year Award to go along with his three Super Bowl victories with the Patriots.

Over his career, Gronkowski has suffered numerous injuries including back, ankle, forearm, hip, hamstring, ACL, MCL, chest, knee injuries and concussions throughout his career. He has played through some of those injuries, but has appeared in just 115 of a possible 144 games in his career.

The Patriots will now likely have to address the tight end position in the 2019 NFL Draft now that a lot of the top free agents are signed.
