Jimmy Butler traded to the 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers have acquired Jimmy Butler and Justin Patton from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Robert Covington, Dario Saric and a 2022 second-round draft pick according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski.

Butler being traded should come as no surprise due to his recent tension with a lot of people in the Timberwolves’ organization.

When both Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns got paid, Butler was not able to earn as much money, and didn’t want to sign long-term with the team. Butler also had issues with players on the team, presumably Towns and Wiggins, for their effort and desire to win.

The 76ers will put Butler with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons to try to make a run at the Eastern Conference title. Philadelphia is tied for third in the Eastern Conference at the moment with a record of 8-5.

Minnesota will get a great defender in Covington and a solid young stretch-four in Saric. They will pair with Wiggins and Towns to try and turn the 4-9 record around in Minnesota.

Butler, the 29-year-old wing, has averaged 16.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists in his career.
