Payton, 25, was the 10th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Orlando Magic and has played for the Magic, Suns and Pelicans in his five-year career. Last season for the Pelicans, Payton averaged 10.6 points and 7.6 assists per game.
The Knicks have been active in free agency, but have mostly signed frontcourt players up to this point. The signings of Payton and Wayne Ellington will give the Knicks solid depth at the guard positions.
