Pass rusher Dee Ford has been traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the San Francisco 49ers for a second-round draft pick in 2020 as first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Ford will also receive an extension to help complete the trade worth $87.5 million over five years.
Ford, 27, has spent his entire five-year career with the Kansas City Chiefs. This season he had a career year with 13 sacks and was set to hit the free agent market.
The Chiefs weren’t likely going to reach a long-term deal with Ford, so they felt the need to trade him. The second-round pick they acquired will help them down the line.
San Francisco has addressed one of their biggest needs in acquiring a pass rusher. Ford should immediately help their efforts, as they tied for 22nd with 37 sacks last season.
