While not many details have been released yet about the contract, Rosenthal has said it is a multi-year deal.
Kimbrel, 31, had not signed with a team up to this point in the season. He has played with the Braves, Padres and Red Sox in his nine years of service in the pros. A seven-time All-Star, Kimbrel has won Reliever of the Year and won the 2018 World Series with the Red Sox.
He has 333 saves and a 1.91 ERA in his career. Kimbrel will help a Cubs bullpen that has struggled so far this season.
