The Cleveland Browns have promoted offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens to head coach according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
Kitchens was named offensive coordinator after head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley were fired following week 8 of the 2018 NFL season. He was formerly an assistant coach for the Cowboys and Cardinals before joining the Browns, but was only an offensive coordinator for the last nine weeks of the regular season.
Former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was the interim coach after Jackson was fired and also was a candidate for the job. Williams will not be kept on staff for next season.
The Browns went 7-8-1 this season, but were 5-3 after the head coaching change was made and Kitchens was named the offensive coordinator.
