Long-time Reds’ radio announcer Marty Brennaman will retire following the 2019 season it was announced on Wednesday.
Brennaman, 76, has been the Cincinnati Reds’ radio play-by-play announcer since the 1974 season and has been inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
The Cincinnati Reds have seen a lot of historic events over the time Brennaman has been calling the games. His notable calls include: Three Worlds Series Championships (1975,1976,1990), Hank Aaron’s 714th career home run (which tied Babe Ruth for most all-time at that point), Tom Seaver’s no-hitter (1978), Pete Rose’s record-breaking 4,192nd hit (1985), Tom Browning’s perfect game (1988), Ken Griffey Jr.’s 500th and 600th career home runs (2004 and 2008), Roy Halladay’s no-hitter (2010 NLDS), Jay Bruce’s NL Central-winning walk-off home run (2010), Homer Bailey’s two no-hitters (2012 and 2013) and Jake Arrieta’s no-hitter (2016).
He will always be remembered in Cincinnati for his catchphrase after every Reds’ win, “And this one belongs to the Reds.”
