Wanamaker will help provide guard depth to the Celtics, as they lost backup point guard Terry Rozier to the Hornets earlier in the free agency period.
The 30-year-old was a rookie last season for Boston, but has experience playing several seasons over in Europe. He averaged 3.9 points and 1.6 assists per game in 36 games last year.
