Brad Ausmus has been hired as the next manager of the Angels as announced by the team on Sunday.
Ausmus will be the second manager of the Angels in the 21st century after Mike Socia’s 18 years at the helm.
He managed the Detroit Tigers from 2014 to 2017. In his four seasons in charge in Detroit, Ausmus compiled a 314-332 record. The Tigers made the postseason in his first season, but were bounced in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. They then failed to make the playoffs for the rest of Ausmus’ tenure.
After his time in Detroit, Ausmus started working in the Angels’ front office as an assistant to General Manager Billy Eppler.
Eppler made a statement on the hire of Ausmus, saying, ” “Ultimately, Brad’s balance of connectivity, communication and leadership skills, as well as his understanding of evolving strategies and probabilistic approach to decision making, led us to him. We believe his knowledge, drive and growth-mindset will allow him to integrate seamlessly with our players and staff and will be pivotal in advancing our culture and moving us toward our goals as an organization.”
The Angels went 80-82 this season and have not made the playoffs since 2014.
