Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton is out for the season with a thumb injury that happened on Sunday in their game against the Browns according to multiple reports. He has been placed on Injured Reserve by the team on Monday.
Dalton’s injury occurred in the third quarter after he tried to recover an errant snap by center Billy Price.
The team will be forced to start Jeff Driskel, who has not yet made a start yet in his career, against the Broncos. Tom Savage has been claimed off of waivers from the San Francisco 49ers to serve as the backup.
Cincinnati is now 5-6 on the season and has seen their playoff chances dwindle with this injury.
Dalton threw for 2,566 yards, 21 touchdown and 11 interceptions on the season before the injury.
Driskel had 158 yards and a touchdown in relief of Dalton on Sunday. The 25-year-old has just started getting playing time this year. He started his college career at Florida, but finished it at Louisiana Tech.
