Season 6 Is the season of mobility. The fear of fall damage is gone which is a breath of fresh air for some players. The new issue is not the lack of hours honing editing skills, but rather the lack of building materials. The Redeploy mechanic now enables players to take rotations that weren’t possible on top of the other mobility items in game. Patch 6.2 is meta changing that promotes adaptability and aggression.
Mobility excluding vehicles
Fortnite has an extensive catalog of mobility items. Players are now able to make it to the other side of the island with ease without fear of getting caught in the storm unless they have starved themselves of materials. We have seen techniques of using the Chiller Trap to boost run speed, using the grappler to take high ground, and the rift-to-go to disengage safely. All of which are solid techniques to move about the island or to leave a fight. Compared to Summer Skirmish, the pacing and the play styles are drastically different.
Fall Skirmish
Fall Skirmish showcased the top players using the new mechanic to its full potential. Faze clan players Cloak and Tfue used the redeploy meta to their advantage and make plays that would have been risky in patch 6.1. Low ground plays are at a huge disadvantage now, with the building Nerf in August and the lack of materials gained from harvesting high ground players are at a huge advantage. Team Liquid, who put low ground game play in the spotlight didn’t do so well with the 6.2 patch. Team Liquid did not place high as they usually do with this sudden change.
6.2 Meta Pros and Cons
Starting off with the Con of the Meta in 6.2. As it stands right now the audio of the Glider is buggy to say the least. Fortunately for us Epic has released this statement on 10/31 on regards to quality of life changes for this new mechanic:
“As this feature remains available, we’ll begin making quality of life changes to its functionality. First of which will be prioritizing Glider audio over weapon audio within certain ranges, this will begin in v6.21. We also plan on adding additional changes in future updates.” – Epic Games
The main Pro of 6.2 is that a new meta developed which we never would of anticipated. As the game evolved from the start of Season 5, Epic Games has subtly favored the high ground players with each patch. Now players can easily retake high ground and move about the map with ease. Now there are answers for super passive players thanks to 6.2, increased drop rate of Stink Bombs and finding explosive weapons all together.
Season 6 has divided the community in half with changes to mobility, and the anti-defensive changes to the game. Epic has a track record for changing the Meta on a dime. Now promoting adaptive, aggression it would behoove players to play accordingly if they want to level their skills up. Players will have to think beyond just holding forward and firing.
