Fortnite is undoubtedly a success. So what made it that way? It is not just the unique art style, the high cash prizes, or the building factor. What made it so big are the charismatic pros, and Organizations. From high-profile events to Organizations establishing Teams and the emotional celebrations, Fortnite is quite the event to be apart of.
Ninja Las Vegas
Trevor ‘Ninja’ Blevins hosted his event at the at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in the Las Vegas Esports Arena on April 21, 2018 and resulted in 680,000 viewers. If a player manages to best him in a match, they would win a prize of $2,500. With a solid grasp of being an entertainer in-game and doing excellent commentary, Ninja hit it out of the park on both fronts. The two notable winners of the event were “4DRStormYT” and Maurilio “Blind” Gramajo. Blind was not signed on to Cloud9 at this point, but his back-to-back wins at the event certainly garnered attention towards him, eventually helping him secure a spot on the team.
Organizations and Players
The Pros and their respected organizations such as TSM, FaZe Clan, Cloud9, and Liquid all have very unique and entertaining pros and streamers that keep the fans entertained when competing or doing stream snipes. Each pro has a story to tell, the drive to entertain their fans, and often show why they are the best of the best. As the pros get popular, so does the game. In turn, this inspires each fan to pick up the free game and have an opportunity to be part of an amazing community.
A Shot at Greatness
Everyone has a shot at greatness in the game. The explosion of popularity for Fortnite has opened the possibility for players to be signed on to a team or win nearly $90,000 and embracing that amazing feeling of “I made it”. Many pros in the scene right now all started off at one point streaming for a single viewer on Twitch, but they kept at the grind. A perfect example that everyone has a shot is Malachi “Reverse2k” Greiner, 5th place winner in Fortnite Summer Skirmish week 4. Reverse2k’s emotional phone call to his father had viewers choked up inside. The real emotion shown that day is just another reason why Fortnite is taking off as an esport. Fans got to share that celebration with Reverse2k that day.
Fortnite is most certainly a successful game. With an ever evolving meta and unique gameplay, Fortnite is clearly not going anywhere anytime soon and it’s all thanks to Charismatic pros and streamers, crazy live events, and a shot at greatness.
