Following Fortnite’s newest update, the battle royale has added a new system inside the game. This feature is Island Age Ratings which was created to “help parents and players make informed play decisions about the many experiences in Fortnite!” Unfortunately, many players aren’t happy with this addition as it’s doing more harm than good. Because of this, Fortnite is age-restricting several Outfits and more.

Fortnite Is Age-Restricting Player’s Outfits and More
With this feature implemented, every player cosmetic including Outfits, Loading Screens, Harvesting Tools, BackBlings, etc. has an age rating attached to it. This means that if you try to join an experience that’s rated higher than your equipped cosmetic you aren’t allowed to use it. The highest rating a cosmetic item can go up to is “T”, which is the rating of the Battle Royale modes. The biggest issue that comes from this feature is that during creative experiences and other modes, players will have to use different cosmetic items in order to play.
Fortnite Age-Restricting Cosmetics Isn’t A Good Look
Given Epic Games’s past history especially when it comes to the safety of children, it’s understandable how and why this decision was made. However, it’s currently doing more harm than good for players. Restricting items that players have purchased with real money isn’t ideal for keeping the player base happy. Hopefully, there’s a better way to go about this feature as it can’t be ideal to go forward with this process blocking out several of player’s favorite cosmetics.
