Smash Summit 3 First Two Players Eliminated

Blake Van PouckeBy Blake Van PouckeOctober 18, 20163 Mins Read

Smash Summit 3 voting has opened up and six players will be invited after the vote concludes on 10/21. The event already has invited the top-10 players in the world to compete, including Joseph “Mango” Marquez and Adam “Armada” Lindgren. The voting will soon eliminate the bottom two players, while inviting the top-two vote receivers to the Summit.

The dates of the Summit include:
10/18/2016 3:00 p.m. PDT: Bottom 2 players eliminated (12 left)
10/19/2016 3:00 p.m. PDT: Top 2 players invited, Bottom 2 players eliminated (8 left)
10/20/2016 3:00 p.m. PDT: Top 2 players invited, Bottom 2 players eliminated (4 left)
10/21/2016 3:00 p.m. PDT: Top 2 players invited, Bottom 2 players eliminated

Here’s the invited players list

The first two eliminations have already been made with Mike “Mike Haze” Haze and Kyle “Dizzkidboogie” Athayde going down. The next two on the verge of elimination (currently) are Joey “Lucky” Aldama and Sami “Druggedfox” Muhanna, who are both top-20 players. Interestingly enough, one of Melee’s new up-and-comers from the New England area, James “Mafia” Lauerman, is currently leading the voting.

Here’s the rest of the list.

It’ll be interesting to see if any more surprise players get in. With Kevin “PewPewU” Toy right on the brink of falling out of the top-six, it’s open to literally anyone. A player like Canada’s Edgar “N0ne” Sheleby looks like a potential threat to steal a Summit spot. Mustafa “Ice” Ackakaya just recently got into the top-five, after a bump from his Big House 6 performance.

The rest of the field seems set and the top-six is most likely to stay as it is now. N0ne is only 300 votes behind so he could make a quick jump. The problem is, the fans who vote for Falcon are already voting for Johnny “S2J” Kim. The last possible player outside the top-six who could make it: Ryan “The Moon” Coker-Welch.

My prediction is the five of the six currently leading will make it, but Mafia will get upset and fall out of the top-six. It’s a long week and a lot can happen in that time. The Moon has enough notoriety that he can sneak into a spot along with N0ne. It’ll be interesting to watch the vote down the stretch, as well as the actual event itself.

Get out and vote! (I voted for S2J, in case you were wondering)

update: as I said in the piece above, anything can happen in a short time. The Moon has now jumped up into the top six after a flurry of votes. He’s jumped all the way to first.
