Underrated and Risky Fantasy WRs Going Into Week 2

With Week 2 starting today, let’s take a look at some underrated and risky fantasy football wide receiver options for this week. You can also check out my full fantasy football wide receiver rankings for Week 2.

Underrated Fantasy Wide Receiver Options for Week 2:

Tetairoa McMillan:

McMillan and the Panthers are coming off a rough 59-37 loss to the Chicago Bears in their home opener. Despite quarterback Bryce Young throwing for 361 yards and three touchdowns, McMillan wasn’t super involved in the offense for a large chunk of the game, and his final stat line included five catches for 75 yards and a lost fumble. While not a bad week by any standards, I think McMillan could certainly see more targets and catches in this week’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons had a very streaky performance against the Steelers last week with Cooper Rush under center, and if Young and the offense carry over some of the offensive momentum from Week 1, McMillan could definitely be in for a big week.

Deebo Samuel Sr.:

Deebo Samuel Sr. made his return to the 49ers after spending the 2025 season with the Commanders and had a great Week 1 performance, hauling in six catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. He also had a single rush for 12 yards. Samuel Sr. seems to have slid right back into his old role with the 49ers and could be in for another big week with the 49ers hosting the Dolphins in their home opener. The Dolphins are going through Year 1 of a new rebuild, and Samuel Sr. could see increased targets and potential rushes if the 49ers dominate early.

DK Metcalf:

Unlike Samuel Sr. and McMillan, Metcalf had a severely underwhelming Week 1, catching four passes for 40 yards while also dropping some big throws and committing a few offensive pass interference penalties. Metcalf won’t be happy with his Week 1 performance, but will also be eager to make a significant difference in Pittsburgh’s Week 2 matchup versus the Patriots. There is some slight risk with Metcalf this week as the Patriots have a solid secondary led by Christian Gonzalez, but I think Metcalf will rebound from his Week 1 mistakes and could surprise people this week in fantasy.

Quentin Johnston: Similar to Metcalf, Johnston and the Chargers had a poor opening week, with Johnston only catching two passes for 17 yards and the Chargers offense only totaling 14 points against the Cardinals. The main reason for Johnston’s inclusion on the underrated receivers options list is because the Chargers’ WR1 Ladd McConkey is currently dealing with a rib injury and has not practiced this week for the Chargers’ game against the Raiders. If McConkey is out, Johnston could be in for an increased role and more targets within the offense.

Risky Fantasy Wide Receiver Options for Week 2:

Drake London:

London had a quiet Week 1 against the Steelers, only catching two passes for 29 yards. London has been a top receiver in the league in recent years, but with the injuries to Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. to start the season, London may not see his usual production with Cooper Rush at quarterback. The Falcons will be going against the Panthers at home this Sunday. The Panthers’ defense did give up 59 points to the Bears last week, so there is some potential for London to bounce back, but with the uncertainty surrounding Atlanta’s quarterback situation, there’s potential for more of the same from London after his Week 1 performance.

Parker Washington:

Washington opened his 2026 campaign on a strong note, hauling in five passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. While Washington’s form in 2025 and his 2026 opener indicate that 2026 could be a record year for him, he may see his numbers decrease this week as he goes up against one of the league’s best secondaries with the Broncos. Despite the loss, the Broncos held Mahomes to 15-of-27 passing for 184 yards in Week 1. The largest factor adding concern to Washington’s risk this week is that he’ll also likely be opposite Pat Surtain, one of the best cornerbacks in the league and a 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Marvin Harrison Jr.:

Lastly, Marvin Harrison Jr. may be a risky option during Week 2 as he’s coming off a rough stat line versus the Chargers and will now face one of the best defenses in the league in the Seattle Seahawks. Similarly to Washington, there’s a big chance Harrison Jr. will be taking most of his game reps opposite a top cornerback in Devon Witherspoon, who earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2025. Although the Cardinals surprised many with their Week 1 victory, quarterback Jacoby Brissett will now be facing the reigning Super Bowl champions, which makes Harrison Jr. a risky fantasy option this week.
