Let’s take a look at some underrated and risky fantasy football quarterback options heading into Week 8 of the NFL season. You can also check out my full fantasy football quarterback rankings for Week 8 here.
Kyler Murray:
Kyler Murray and the Vikings are off to a rapid 6-0 start to the season and will face the Detroit Lions on the road this week. The Vikings have been stellar all year on the defensive side of the ball but have struggled a bit offensively, scoring 20 or more points in just two games this season. They won’t get a much better matchup than the Lions’ defense, which ranks last in the league in total yards allowed.
Detroit’s high-powered offense will surely be tested by Minnesota’s defense, but I’m expecting the Vikings’ offense to have possibly its best game of the season against a defense that has been shredded to start the year. Murray should definitely be considered one of the most underrated fantasy options for Week 8 and deserves strong consideration as a starter.
Jacoby Brissett:
Similar to Murray and the Vikings, Brissett and the Cardinals haven’t exactly found much success offensively in recent weeks, but they have a chance to turn things around this week as they face the Cowboys on the road. Dallas’ defense has also been abysmal to start the year and currently ranks 29th in the league in total yards allowed. Brissett should definitely be considered an underrated starting option heading into Week 8.
Jared Goff:
Goff and the Lions have been electric offensively all season, but they will face their biggest test yet against the NFC North-leading Vikings, who are currently 6-0 and have one of the most dominant defenses in the league.
This will be an incredibly exciting matchup, as it’ll be interesting to see whether Goff and his talented offense can overcome Minnesota’s defense or whether the Vikings can continue their dominant run in a big divisional game. Goff should be considered an extremely risky option for Week 8, and although he has the firepower to put up points, I’d advise caution and encourage fantasy managers to explore other quarterback options.
Caleb Williams:
Williams and the Bears will also face their biggest test of the season against the Seattle Seahawks, who have one of the best defenses in the league and completely shut down the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football in Week 7.
Similar to the Lions-Vikings matchup, the Bears’ talented offense against the Seahawks’ stout defense should be another competitive matchup in Week 8, and it’ll be intriguing to see which side comes out on top. After Seattle’s dominant Week 7 win and defensive performance, I’d consider Williams a risky start this week and would recommend benching him if fantasy managers have a better option available.
