Let’s take a look at some underrated and risky fantasy football quarterback options going into Week 3. You can also check out my full fantasy football quarterback rankings for Week 3.
Sam Darnold:
The Seahawks made quick work of the Cardinals last week, beating them 31-7 in dominant fashion led by Drew Lock. Although Lock had a great game, it looks like the Seahawks will be getting back their QB1 in Sam Darnold for their road Week 3 game against the Washington Commanders. Although Darnold is returning from injury and had very limited snaps in the Seahawks’ opener vs. the Patriots, the Seahawks are facing an injured Commanders team. The Commanders lost their QB1 Jayden Daniels to an elbow injury and Marcus Mariota will be starting for the Commanders this week. Darnold couldn’t have picked a better opponent to come back against and should be one of the more underrated QB options for fantasy this week with the Seahawks offense in good form.
C.J. Stroud:
Stroud and the Texans have yet to earn their first win of the season but will face off against a familiar AFC South opponent this week in the Colts. Both squads are 0-2, and Stroud may have a good chance to get his team a win and put up a strong fantasy week against a Colts defense that has given up a combined 74 points in the first two weeks of the NFL season. Despite six points scored for the Texans last week, Stroud threw for 353 passing yards and will look to put up his best performance of the season against a struggling divisional rival.
Baker Mayfield:
Mayfield and the Buccaneers have struggled to start the year, losing both of their games against the Bengals and Browns to start the season. The Buccaneers were upset by the Browns last week in a weather-delayed game and now will host the 2-0 Vikings with Kyler Murray returning under center. With Murray back leading the offense, coupled with the Vikings’ elite defense, which only surrendered six points to the Bears offense last week, Mayfield could be in for a shaky fantasy week. Mayfield and the Buccaneers could rally and pick up their first win of the season, but I’d recommend benching Mayfield in what is a risky matchup this week.
Daniel Jones:
As mentioned above, Jones and the Colts will be facing their divisional rivals, the Texans, this week, with both teams hoping to get their first win of the season. The Colts put up an admirable Sunday Night Football performance against the Chiefs in what was an epic overtime game won by the Chiefs with a Harrison Butker field goal. Despite a much better showing than their underwhelming Week 1 opener vs. the Ravens, the Colts will face a top secondary in the Texans and won’t find it easy to score. Consider Jones a risky fantasy option in Week 3 against a hungry Texans roster.
