Fantasy Football Week 5 Wide Receiver Rankings

Publish Date: October 5, 2021

The 2021-22 NFL season has already been extremely entertaining. It has shown fantasy trends that have started to develop and show what could happen the rest of the season. Already some players have proven to be fantasy relevant while some fantasy stars have been alarmingly disappointing to this point. Injuries have started to mount up this season. It is always a great idea to evaluate backup options so that way fantasy managers are prepared if star players miss time. Here are the fantasy football week 5 wide receiver rankings.

*Ratings are subject to change due to injury reports or possible move to reserve/COVID-19 list*

(Check out the section below for details on players already rumored to possibly miss this week and how their replacement options rank for the week)

Key:

Must Start- a player who is in your lineup regardless of the matchup or most circumstances. They will likely finish near the top of the league in points that week and in most weeks.

Starting WR1- a player who makes fantasy owners comfortable starting week after week. Regardless of the matchup, this player has a high floor.

High WR2- a player who may isn’t likely to carry a lineup that week, but has the ability to have a breakout game and is teetering between WR1 and WR2 category.

Starting WR2- a player who should be started in most lineups and should reach their point projection. This player is started is because of their consistency and moderately high floor

Low WR2- a player who may not be a lock to start for a team every week, but will start more times than not. Their production may not be pretty or win a person their lineup but the production is consistent enough to make a fantasy owner comfortable starting them.

Flex- a player who could float around the territory of being benched, but is started due to the potential to play better than their point projection. However, this player has the potential to flop and causes a fantasy team to lose if he has a bad game.

Deeper League Flex- a player who has starting value in deeper leagues. There are enough reasons to leave this player on the bench, but their upside makes them an attractive option. Desperate times may call for a player like this to be inserted into starting lineups.

Upside Player- a player who is boom or bust. This player can exceed expectations in a given week or could flop and be the reason why someone lost their fantasy matchup.

Leave on the Bench- a player who should be avoided in all lineups that week. Many times this player could even be left on waivers.

Possible Changes that can occur before Sunday

Falcons Wide Receivers: Calvin Ridley & Russell Gage:

News broke Thursday that both Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage will not be traveling to London to play the Jets. Ridley because of a personal issue and Gage due to his ankle. Olamide Zaccheaus would be the Falcons’ number one wide receiver. However, Atlanta will likely feature Kyle Pitts, Cordarrelle Patterson, Mike Davis, and Hayden Hurst as their featured weapons.

Tennessee Titans Wide Receivers: WR9 A.J. Brown, WR22 Julio Jones, & Nick Westbrook-Ikhine

Both A.J. Brown and Julio Jones were out last week because of hamstring injuries. Now one of their replacements Nick Westbrook-Ikhene is dealing with his own hamstring injury. Brown practiced Wednesday however both Jones and Westbrook Ikhene missed practice.

If all three miss Sunday’s game against the Jaguars, Chester Rodgers will move up to WR49 between Henry Ruggs and Van Jefferson. If One of Brown or Jones were to play Rodgers moves up to WR52 between Tim Patrick and Kalif Raymond.

WR18 Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys

Amari Cooper missed practice Wednesday because of a combination of his hamstring and rib injuries. He did practice on Thursday. He should play this weekend, however, if he was to miss this week’s game CeeDee Lamb would jump up to WR14 between Adam Thielen and Keenan Allen. Cedrick Wilson would also jump up to WR59 in between Nelson Agholor and Sammy Watkins.

New York Giants Wide Receivers: WR28 Sterling Shepard, WR43 Kenny Golladay, & WR52 Darius Slayton

For the second week in a row, all three of the Giants’ top receivers are dealing with injuries. Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton missed last week’s game because of hamstring injuries. While Golladay played through his hip issue. However, Golladay is now dealing with a groin issue. The Giants are optimistic that all three will play. If any or multiple receivers are out John Ross and Kadarius Toney are expected to see bigger roles in this offense again.

WR30 Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals

Tee Higgins has missed the last two games because of a shoulder injury. There is a chance Higgins returns this week. However, if he doesn’t Ja’Marr Chase retains his rank at WR25 because of the tough match against Jaire Alexander. But Tyler Boyd goes up to WR41 between Laviska Shenault Jr. and Darnell Mooney.

WR33 Devante Parker, Miami Dolphins

Devante Parker was limited in practice Wednesday because of a shoulder injury. If Parker was to miss this week against Tampa Bay Jaylen Waddle would jump to WR35 between Emmanuel Sanders and Allen Robinson.

Denver Broncos Wide Receivers: WR37 Courtland Sutton & WR51 Tim Patrick

Denver’s quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is in concussion protocol. It is uncertain if Bridgewater will play Sunday against Pittsburgh. If Bridgewater is out and Drew Lock starts Courtland Sutton goes down to WR40 between Laviska Shenault Jr. and Darnell Mooney. Tim Patrick would go down to WR57 between Nelson Agholor and Sammy Watkins.

WR47 Chase Claypool, Pittsburgh Steelers

Chase Claypool missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury. He was limited in practice Wednesday. If Claypool misses another game Diontae Johnson retains his value, JuJu Smith-Schuster goes up to WR55 between Quintez Cephus and Elijah Moore, and James Washington goes up to WR78 between Freddie Swain and Quez Watkins.

WR55 Elijah Moore, New York Jets

Elijah Moore missed last week because of a concussion. If he misses this great matchup against the Atlanta Falcons he would bump up to WR42 between Darnell Mooney and DeVonta Smith. Also, Keelan Cole would jump up to WR66 between Marquez Callaway and Randall Cobb.

WR74 Rashod Bateman, Baltimore Ravens

2021 first-round pick Rashod Bateman could make his debut this week against the Indianapolis Colts. If he is activated off of IR he is a player to keep eyes on as he could be a featured player in Baltimore.

WR78 Quez Watkins, Philadelphia Eagles

Quez Watkins has developed into a solid third receiver for the Eagles’ offense. He was limited in practice Wednesday because of a knee injury. If Watkins is out this week Greg Ward Jr. would fill Watkins void in the lineup.
