The NFL season is here and with it, fantasy football. With so many injuries across the league, it can be hard to figure out who to start and why. This will go through every team and their injuries. Here is the fantasy football week 1 injury outlook.
Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Cowboys key injuries: QB Dak Prescott (Shoulder-playing), OG Zack Martin (Covid list-out)
All of the key fantasy players are good to go in this game. It is important to note that the Cowboys have a few players out on the offensive line, including Martin, which may limit the offense’s potential in week 1.
Buccaneers key injuries: WR Chris Godwin (Quad-playing), WR Antonio Brown (Knee-playing)
The wide receiver injuries are something to watch throughout the game, but both aren’t listed on the injury report.
Minnesota Vikings at Cincinnati Bengals
Vikings key injuries: TE Irv Smith (Meniscus-out), WR Justin Jefferson (Shoulder-playing), WR Adam Thielen (Thigh-playing), RB Alexander Mattison (Ribs-out)
The Vikings will most notably be without Irv Smith at tight end. They traded for Chris Herndon to take his spot, but he may not be relevant in most fantasy formats. Anthony Barr is questionable on the defensive side of the ball, but that may not impact the effectiveness of the Vikings D/ST very much.
Bengals key injuries: CB Trae Waynes (Hamstring-out)
The Bengals had injuries along their defensive line and to Waynes, but that shouldn’t change much. Their defense shouldn’t be started.
Philadelphia Eagles at Atlanta Falcons
Eagles key injuries: OG Brandon Brooks (Knee-questionable), C Landon Dickerson (Knee-questionable)
The skill position players for the Eagles are ready to go, but the offensive line may not be at full health with Brooks and Dickerson both being questionable.
Falcons key injuries: N/A
Atlanta has several players on the injury report, but not many who really qualify to appear on the fantasy football week 1 injury outlook. If Matt Ryan goes down, A.J. McCarron is out for the season as his backup, so the offense may struggle to move the ball. Feleipe Franks and Josh Rosen are the only two other quarterbacks on the roster.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills
Steelers key injuries: OT Zach Banner (Knee-out), OG Kendrick Green (Thumb-questionable), RB Anthony McFarland (undisclosed-out)
The Steelers aren’t projected to have a great offensive line this year and these injuries may limit the whole offense. For fantasy managers with the Steelers D/ST, Tyson Alualu, Alex Highsmith, Stephon Tuitt all have injuries. Alualu and Highsmith are questionable and Tuitt is out. The T.J. Watt contract talks are also worth monitoring.
Bills key injuries: WR Emmanuel Sanders (Foot-questionable), WR Stefon Diggs (Knee-playing)
Diggs wasn’t listed on the injury report, but Sanders is questionable for the Bills on Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers at Detroit Lions
49ers key injuries: WR Brandon Aiyuk (Hamstring-playing), QB Trey Lance (Finger-questionable), RB Jeff Wilson (Knee-out)
No one should start Trey Lance until he is actually seen producing, but he is questionable for this game anyways. Wilson being out opens things up for Raheem Mostert and rookie Trey Sermon, but picking which 49ers running backs to play can be a conundrum.
Lions key injuries: RB D’Andre Swift (Hamstring-playing), TE T.J. Hockenson (Shoulder-playing), WR Tyrell Williams (Groin-playing)
All of the skill position players look good to go for the Lions, but starting tackle Taylor Decker is questionable with a finger injury.
Arizona Cardinals at Tennessee Titans
Cardinals key injuries: WR DeAndre Hopkins (Undisclosed-playing)
The Cardinals are relatively healthy going into the season and Hopkins should be good to go in week 1.
Titans key injuries: WR A.J. Brown (Knee-questionable), RB Darrynton Evans (Knee-out), WR Julio Jones (Undisclosed-playing),
Brown didn’t practice on Wednesday and is questionable for Sunday. Jones looks like he’ll play for sure.
Seattle Seahawks at Indianapolis Colts
Seahawks key injuries: WR Tyler Lockett (Groin-playing), RB Rashaad Penny (Calf-questionable), WR Dee Eskridge (Toe-questionable)
Anyone Seahawks player worth starting in most traditional fantasy leagues is ready to go for week 1
Colts key injuries: WR T.Y. Hilton (Neck-out), WR Parris Campbell (Achilles-questionable), OG Quenton Nelson (Foot-questionable), QB Carson Wentz (Foot-playing)
The Colts have several injuries on the offensive line and in their receiver room. They could be pretty thin by the time the game comes around. Michael Pittman will be relied upon to have a huge game with Hilton out and Campbell questionable.
Los Angeles Chargers at Washington Football Team
Chargers key injuries: RB Austin Ekeler (Hamstring-questionable)
Just when it looked like the Chargers wouldn’t be hit by the injury bug, Ekeler didn’t practice Wednesday with a hamstring injury. He is questionable for Sunday. Justin Jackson is listed as the backup on the depth chart, but Joshua Kelley could also get some work.
Football Team key injuries: WR Curtis Samuel (Groin-questionable)
Washington’s new WR2 may not suit up in week 1. He limped off the field during Wednesday’s practice.
New York Jets at Carolina Panthers
Jets key injuries: WR Jamison Crowder (COVID-out), RB La’Mical Perine (Foot-questionable), RB Michael Carter (Undisclosed-playing)
With Crowder out, Elijah Moore has a huge opportunity to play well in the slot in week 1.
Panthers key injuries: WR Shi Smith (Shoulder-questionable)
The Panthers are mostly healthy heading into week 1.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans
Jaguars key injuries: RB Travis Etienne (Foot-out), WR D.J. Chark (Finger-playing), WR Marvin Jones (Shoulder-playing, WR Tavon Austin (Quad-out)
With Chark and Jones avoiding the injury report, most of the Jags are ready to go. James Robinson has RB1 potential with Etienne being out for the year.
Cleveland Browns at Kansas City Chiefs
Browns key injuries: WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Knee-questionable)
Beckham Jr. is still recovering from his torn ACL, but is questionable. The Browns do have several defenders who may miss the game, but it would be crazy to start their defense against the Chiefs anyways.
Chiefs key injuries: WR Mecole Hardman (Oblique-questionable), RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (Ankle-playing), RB Darrel Williams (Head-playing)
Mecole Hardman is questionable with an oblique injury, but if he does play he is worth some fantasy consideration because of how banged up the Browns are on defense.
Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots
Dolphins key injuries: WR Will Fuller IV (Suspended-out)
On top of not having Fuller, the Dolphins also have some offensive line injuries that could impact them in week 1. Jakeem Grant is starting in Fuller’s place, buy Jaylen Waddle and DeVante Parker both should see more targets this week than when Fuller comes back.
Patriots key injuries: WR Nelson Agholor (Ankle-questionable), WR N’Keal Harry (Shoulder-out)
With Harry and Agholor both possibly being out for this game, Jakobi Myers should get starting consideration in most fantasy formats. Mac Jones is making his first start and he’ll have to rely on someone. Myers is talented enough to make the most of the situation.
Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints
Packers key injuries: OLB Za’Darius Smith (Back-questionable), OT David Bakhtiari (Knee-out)
There aren’t any injuries to fantasy-relevant players. If the defense is started to try and see if Jameis Winston will throw interceptions, beware of Smith not being 100 percent, which will reduce the amount of pressure. Bakhtiari being out is also something to note, as Cam Jordan could get to Aaron Rodgers a decent amount.
Saints key injuries: K Wil Lutz (Abdomen-out), K Brett Maher (Groin-questionable), WR Michael Thomas (Ankle-out)
Marquez Callaway has stepped up in Thomas’ absence and could be a potential fantasy gem. Don’t trust any Saints kickers at the moment.
Denver Broncos at New York Giants
Broncos key injuries: TE Noah Fant (Knee-questionable)
Fant is questionable so it is best to try and pick up another tight end just in case Fant can’t go.
Giants key injuries: RB Saquon Barkley (Knee-questionable), TE Kyle Rudolph (Foot-questionable), TE Evan Engram (Calf-questionable), WR Kenny Golladay (Hamstring-questionable)
Fantasy managers need to start Saquon Barkley if he’s healthy, but shouldn’t feel pressured to start any other Giants, given their talent level and/or injury status.
Chicago Bears at Los Angeles Rams
Bears key injuries: RB Tarik Cohen (Knee-out), WR Darnell Mooney (Back-questionable)
David Montgomery won’t have to fight for carries yet with Cohen on the sidelines. Mooney is a player that shouldn’t be started yet, partially because of the quarterback play and partially because of injury.
Rams key injuries: RB Came Akers (Knee-out)
Akers is on IR and Darrell Henderson wasn’t listed on the injury report. He should be started. Sony Michel shouldn’t eat into his carries too much.
Baltimore Ravens at Las Vegas Raiders
Ravens key injuries: RB J.K. Dobbins (Knee-out), RB Justice Hill (Knee-out), WR Miles Boykin (Hamstring-out), WR Rashod Bateman (Groin-out), RB Gus Edwards (Knee-out)
The Ravens have so many key injuries. Gus Edwards went down with a knee injury this week to worsen the problem. Le’Veon Bell and Ty’Son Williams stock just went way up. Devonta Freeman was signed to the practice squad and will likely be promoted by game time on Monday. Marquise Brown will need to play well with so many receivers out.
Raiders key injuries: RB Josh Jacobs (Undisclosed-questionable)
Keep tabs on Jacobs. If he can’t go, Kenyan Drake should be started.
