Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week, there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add in Week 9.
(Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are rostered in less than 55 percent of ESPN leagues)
Coleman returned from injury in Week 7 and impressed with nine carries for 54 yards and two receptions for 15 yards. RJ Harvey was put on IR and Coleman had more opportunity in Week 8. He finished the game against the Chiefs with 11 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown. He also had four catches for 63 yards.
With Harvey on IR and Coleman playing well, there is reason to believe that Coleman will see an uptick in work moving forward. Coleman played more snaps than Dobbins, and while both will be utilized, Coleman should still get most of the work out of the backfield. He is currently rostered in 52.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
Jeremiyah Love returned from an ankle injury but had to leave the Week 8 game against the Cowboys. The Cardinals came from behind to win and Allgeier was a big part of it. He had 11 carries for 147 yards and one touchdown. As a receiver, he had five catches for 44 yards and one touchdown.
With Love battling injury, Allgeier will be the lead back if he misses time. Check the injury report for Love before starting Allgeier, but if Love is out, Allgeier can be started depending on the situation. With the Cardinals not being the most competitive team this year, they may bring Love back slowly to preserve him to the future, giving Allgeier some multi-week potential. He is rostered in 46 percent of ESPN leagues.
Mike Washington Jr. took over the majority of the work in the Raiders’ backfield in Week 8. While Ashton Jeanty still played, Washington had 25 carries for 83 yards. He did not register a catch in the game against the Jets.
The Raiders used Washington on early downs, while Jeanty was the passing-down back. Jeanty still saw some production, but Washington seems like he is worth picking up given how much usage he saw. The usage could change, so it may be wise to pick Washington up, but wait to see if this breakdown keeps up. He is rostered in just 17.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
Josh Jacobs returned and took over most of the work out of the Packers’ backfield. The NFL is still reviewing information regarding his case after he came back from the Commissioner’s Exempt List. With more information coming out, the NFL may make a move to suspend Jacobs.
If Jacobs is suspended, Lloyd would be the running back to pick up. He did not have the most success when he was starting, with just one game with double-digit points (standard scoring), but his usage is worth being rostered. The situation is worth monitoring and if Jacobs is suspended, Lloyd can be picked up. He is rostered in 38.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Colts are reportedly more open to trading Jonathan Taylor now and are fielding offers. With the trade deadline coming up on November 10, a move could be made soon. If he is traded, McGowen figures to take over the work in the backfield. He had 11 carries for 46 yards in Week 7 and five carries for 29 yards in Week 8.
McGowen has been the backup for the Colts. If the Colts don’t receive a running back in return with the Taylor trade, he should get a lot of work out of the backfield. McGowen can be picked up now and possibly started if Taylor is traded. He is currently rostered in 21.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
