Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 9. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
Tyrone Tracy started the season as the starting running back for the Giants. He partially dislocated his shoulder this year and Cam Skattebo rose to prominence. This week, Skattebo left the game with a dislocated ankle and now Tracy is in line to get most of the work out of the backfield. He finished week 8 against the Eagles with 10 carries for 39 yards and two receptions for 14 yards.
It looked like Skattebo’s injury will keep him out for some time, if not the whole season. Tracy had a good rookie season last year and can be productive this season, especially with the emergence of Jaxson Dart at quarterback. He is rostered in just 41.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
Benson was injured in week 4 with a knee injury. Before the injury, he was expected to fill in for James Conner who is out for the season. He was placed on IR and forced to miss four games. Benson isn’t eligible to come back this week, but can come back in week 10.
While there has been no info about Benson definitely returning in week 10, he should be able to return soon. The Cardinals have had issues in their running back room since Benson’s injury and will likely utilize him heavily if he is able to play. He is rostered in 47.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
Boutte continues to build a rapport with Drake Maye. He has four games in which he scored double-digit fantasy points this season, so he does provide a boom or bust to a roster. Boutte has had three straight good weeks, as he had five catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns in week 6. In week 7 against the Titans, he had two catches for 55 yards and one touchdown. This week, he had three catches for 75 yards and one touchdown.
While his targets aren’t always among the team best, he has one game with more than five targets, Boutte makes a lot of the opportunities he is given. He shouldn’t be started every week, but he is a good option to have on the bench to use when other players are on bye or injured. Boutte is rostered in 30.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
As the season goes on, Monangai is getting more work out of the Bears’ backfield. In week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, he had his best game of the season. For week 8, Monangai didn’t have a great week, but his usage was almost 50/50 with D’Andre Swift. He finished the game with seven carries for 24 yards.
The Ravens were coming off a bye and were able to slow down the Bears’ offense. The Bears will likely get things going soon and their offense can support two running backs, much like Ben Johnson’s done in Detroit. Monangai can be added for now and started down the run when there is more proof of concept. He is rostered in 38.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
Spears returned from injury in week 5 for the Titans. Through the weeks he has played, he has received more work out of the backfield. Week 8 against the Colts was his best game yet, as he had nine carries for 59 yards and a touchdown. He also had three catches for 23 yards.
There is a possibility that Tony Pollard is traded before the deadline, which would really open up a lot of work for Spears. He gets enough work, especially on third downs, to be picked up now, although he could be started down the stretch if Pollard is traded. Spears is currently rostered in 36.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
