Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 8. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
As the season goes on, Monangai is getting more work out of the Bears’ backfield. In week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, he had his best game of the season. He had 13 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown. Monangai added two catches for 13 yards after getting plenty of third down snaps.
Ben Johnson has an offense that can support two running backs, much like he did in Detroit. Swift played closer to 50 percent of the snaps after dealing with an injury this week. The split should look more like a 50/50 down the stretch, which means Monangai should be rostered and started if Swift has any more injury issues. Monangai is rostered in 4.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
Knight continues to be the most trusted running back in the Arizona backfield with James Conner and Trey Benson out. After having 11 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown in week 6, he got even more work in week 7 against the Packers. Knight had 14 carries for 57 yards. He also had three catches for seven yards.
The Cardinals are going into a bye in week 8, so Knight won’t be useful this week, but he should still be on a roster. Benson was projected to miss four to six weeks at minimum, but likely won’t return for a few more weeks after the bye, giving Knight a lot of future work. He can be added and maybe played in week 9 against the Cowboys if Benson isn’t active. Knight is rostered in 23.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
Boutte continues to build a rapport with Drake Maye. He has three games in which he scored double-digit fantasy points this season, so he does provide a boom or bust to a roster. Boutte has had two straight good weeks, as he had five catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns in week 6. In week 7 against the Titans, he had two catches for 55 yards and one touchdown.
While his targets aren’t always among the team best, he has one game with more than five targets, Boutte makes a lot of the opportunities he is given. He shouldn’t be started every week, but he is a good option to have on the bench to use when other players are on bye or injured. Boutte is rostered in 27.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
In terms of fantasy football, Jaxson Dart continues to impress. After respectable and solid performances in his first two weeks of starting, but has scored 23.6 and 28.42 points in each of the last two weeks. In week 7 against Denver, Dart passed for 283 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also ran the gball five times for 11 yards and a touchdown.
Dart’s performance against a good Broncos’ defense is encouraging for his future. He has done well with his arm and also has three touchdowns on the ground over the last three weeks. With plenty of bye weeks coming up, Dart can be picked up and started for some rosters in the next few weeks. He is rostered in 43.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
Gadsden was a healthy scratch for the first two weeks of the season. He had a few mundane performances through week 5, but in week 6, he started playing better. He had seven catches for 68 yards in week 6, although he did have a fumble. That didn’t break any trust, as he had seven catches for 164 yards and one touchdown against the Colts in week 7.
Although he has had just one good game and a solid game before it, Gadsden is already TE17. The Chargers will continue to use him as a matchup problem, even if he doesn’t continue to put up as many points as against the Colts. He can be picked up now while his progress is monitored, but Gadsden could be a good tight end option to start as well. Gadsden is rostered in 2.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
