Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 8. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Gus Edwards, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Edwards has been on this list in past weeks, but now he is officially back healthy. He returned to the lineup against the Browns, rushing for 66 yards and two touchdowns in the process. The Ravens were without J.K. Dobbins and Edwards made the most of his carries in week 7.
Dobbins will likely be back for week 8, but Edwards is still rosterable. With Dobbins dealing with knee issues, he may miss time more time during the rest of the season. If Dobbins is out, Edwards is startable and even could be when Dobbins plays because the Ravens have a run-focused offense. He is rostered in just 16.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers
The Panthers made a big trade this week, sending Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers. It has made an opportunity for some other running backs. One of those is Hubbard, who nine carries for 63 yards and a touchdown. He also totaled two catches for 10 yards against the Buccaneers.
Although he left the game with an injury, he was the most used Panthers’ running back before going out. It didn’t seem to be a serious injury, so Hubbard should be good to go for the foreseeable future. He is currently rostered in 25.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. D’Onta Foreman, RB, Carolina Panthers
While Hubbard was the favored running back early, Foreman also received some playing time and produced. He had 15 carries for 118 yards. Foreman also had two receptions for 27 yards against a good Bucs’ defense.
The Panthers are likely going to use both running backs the rest of the season. If Hubbard does end up missing time, Foreman can be started. Either way, it is best to pick up both until the backfield usage gets settled. Foreman is rostered in 35.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Latavius Murray, RB, Denver Broncos
The Broncos acquired Murray just a few weeks ago and have already used him a decent amount. In week 7, he had eight carries for 24 yards and a touchdown against the Jets. He also had two receptions, but netted -1 yards.
In the past few weeks, Javonte Williams has been injured for the rest of the season, Melvin Gordon has been benched after starting games and Mike Boone left the game against the Jets with an ankle injury. Murray is a player to pick up and see what happens over the next few weeks before starting. He is available in over 75 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Allgeier is another player who has appeared on this list before, but is still able to be picked up. He had one of the best games of his rookie season in week 7 against the Bengals. Despite splitting some of the backfield work, he registered 16 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown.
The Falcons are using Allgeier in short yardage situations, but also sometimes on third downs. With Cordarrelle Patterson still on IR, Allgeier is the running back to roster out of Atlanta. His value will decrease when Patterson comes back, but for now, the Falcons’ run-heavy offense will provide him with opportunities.
