Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 6. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
Walker returned from his hernia injury in week 2, but has slowly worked himself more deeply in the offense. In week 5, he had eight carries for 88 yards and one touchdown. Rashaad Penny went down with an injury and Walker delivered.
It looks like Penny may be lost for the season with a lower leg injury. That means the backfield will mostly be Walker’s after the Seahawks selected him in the 2023 NFL Draft and lost Chris Carson to retirement. He should be able to be picked up and started in most leagues. Walker is rostered in just 47.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
Robinson looked good in the preseason before being shot in a carjacking attempt. He returned to action in week 5, and had nine carries for 22 yards. That is not the best performance, but considering what he has had to overcome early in his career, it could be the start of something more.
In week 5, Robinson had nine carries to Antonio Gibson’s three. It looks like the Commanders want to feature him more moving forward. With a lopsided workload sliding in Robinson’s future, he should be picked up now. He is rostered in just 44.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
Cordarrelle Patterson’s is currently on IR, which has left the Atlanta backfield to Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley. In Patterson’s absence, Allgeier rushed 13 times for 45 yards. He did not have a catch, but received more of the work than Huntley.
Patterson is at least going to be out a few more weeks and Allgeier should be able to take advantage of his opportunity. He was picked up in a lot of leagues before week 5, but will be even more in demand after week 5. Allgeier is rostered in 45 percent of ESPN leagues.
Javonte Williams is out for the season, so Boone has seen increased snaps alongside Melvin Gordon. In week 5, Boone carried the ball seven times for 38 yards. He also had three receptions for 47 yards to show off his versatility.
With Melvin Gordon having fumbling issues and the Broncos already planning to use two backs this season, Boone will likely continue to get work. He should be picked up for now and only started in deeper leagues until he shows how productive he can be. Boone is available in nearly 75 percent of ESPN leagues.
Both James Conner and Darrel Williams left the games with injuries for the Cardinals. Benjamin rose to the occasion, finishing the game against the Eagles with eight rushes for 25 yards and one touchdown. He also had three catches for 28 yards.
It is worth monitoring the injuries to Conner and Williams this week. In the meantime, Benjamin can be added while the diagnosis of those injuries are revealed. He is currently rostered in 6.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
