Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 4. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. De’Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins
Achane broke out in the third game of the season against the Broncos. He was the backup to Raheem Mostert, but still saw plenty of work as the Dolphins scored 70 points. Achane finished the game with 18 carries for 203 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also added four receptions for 30 yards and two touchdowns.
While Mostert will likely still be the lead back for now, Achane has carved out a nice role for himself. Jeff Wilson will return from injury in the next few weeks, but Achane’s speed is game-breaking. He should be added and held on to while the backfield works itself out. There is a world where Achane ends up being the lead back. Achane is available in 84 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Tank Dell, WR, Houston Texans
So far this season, Dell has improved every week of his rookie career. He is turning into the number one target for C.J. Stroud. In week 3, he had five catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns against the Jaguars. He averaged 29 yards per reception in the game, showing his big-play ability.
With Stroud playing so well, Dell is a player whose stock is on the rise. He has big-play ability and can really help the Texans’ offense over the rest of the season. He is only rostered in 23.3 percent of ESPN leagues, so he can be added and held before inserting him into the starting lineup.
3. Melvin Gordon, RB, Baltimore Ravens
The injuries for the Ravens keep on piling up. Melvin Gordon was activated off the practice squad in week 3 against the Colts. He was thrust into action when Gus Edwards had to leave the game with a concussion. Gordon finished the game with 10 rushes for 32 yards. He also had two catches for 23 yards.
With Edwards possibly missing time with a concussion it adds to the injuries of the Ravens. J.K. Dobbins is already out for the season, while Justice Hill missed week 3 with a foot injury. If neither Edwards or Hill can play in week 4, Gordon should be the lead running back. He is available in over 98 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Josh Palmer, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
Palmer has been a productive player for the Chargers over the last few years. That has continued into the start of this season, despite the team adding talent at the position in the offseason. In week 3 against the Vikings, Palmer had four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Mike Williams was lost for the season with a torn ACL. That moves Palmer up to being the number two receiver behind Keenan Allen. Rookie Quentin Johnston will likely eat at his target share at some point, but for now Palmer can put up numbers in the Chargers’ offense. He is rostered in just 0.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Rashee Rice, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs’ wide receiving core has taken a lot of heat to start the season. They have struggled to find players who can produce consistently. So far this season, Rice has been one that has stood out. He had five catches for 59 yards in week 3.
This game adds to a solid start to his rookie season. Rice had a touchdown in week 1 and could be growing in the offense. Travis Kelce remains the top option, but there is plenty of room for competition behind him. He can be added now and if he continues to grow, could be played later in the season. He is rostered in just 8.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
