One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 8. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
1. Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals have the 16th-ranked fantasy defense this season and average 5.4 points per game. They have one double-digit scoring performance, which came against the Jets in week 3. Their worst performance came against New Orleans, when they scored 0 points. The Bengals have five interceptions, three fumble recoveries and12 sacks on the season.
In week 8, the Bengals play against the Browns. The Browns score 24 points per game, but are mainly focused on running the ball. Cincinnati can focus on stopping the run and make Jacoby Brissett beat them. With an extra day to prepare for the game, they can have a successful game against the Browns. They are rostered in 49.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville has the 17th-ranked fantasy defense this season that averages 5.3 points per game. Their best performance was when they scored 18 points against Indianapolis in week 2. They have had two negative-scoring performances over the last two weeks. The Jaguars have seven interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 11 sacks this season.
Despite their recent struggles, the Jaguars are playing the Broncos in week 8. The Broncos are scoring a league-worst 14.3 points per game. Russell Wilson hasn’t been playing well and also missed the week 7 game against the Jets. With or without Wilson the Broncos have problems and the Jags can play well. They are rostered in 40.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Washington Commanders
Washington ranks 20th for fantasy defenses at 4.6 points per game. They scored double-digit points once this season, against the Bears. They have a -1-point scoring performance that happened against Detroit in week 2. They have two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 19 sacks this season.
In week 8, the Commanders play the Colts. Indianapolis just made the decision to start Sam Ehlinger in place of Matt Ryan. Ehlinger can scramble, but isn’t the best passer. Washington can load the box and make Ehlinger beat them with his arm, which might go in their favor. The Commanders are rostered in under 20 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Tennessee Titans
The Titans are the 15th-ranked fantasy defense and score 6.5 points per game. They scored 20 fantasy points against Indianapolis in week 7. Their worst performance was against Buffalo, when they scored -5 points. They have one touchdown, six interceptions, four fumble recoveries and 16 sacks on the year.
Tennessee plays Houston in week 8. The Texans score 17.8 points per game, which ranks near the bottom of the league. Tennessee should be able to limit their ability to score and maybe force a few turnovers. They are rostered in 13.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Indianapolis Colts
Indianapols has the 12th-ranked fantasy defense and they score 6.3 points per game. They had their best performance against Denver when they scored 12 points. The Colts played their worst game against the Jaguars, which resulted in a 0-point performance. They have three interceptions, four fumble recoveries and 17 sacks.
In week 8, the Colts play the Commanders. Washington has inserted Taylor Heinicke into the lineup, which did result in a win, but it was far from a smooth game. The Colts have a good defense and could force Heinicke into some turnovers. Indianapolis is rostered in 43.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
