One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 7. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
The Chiefs have a solid fantasy defense this season, ranking 12th in the league at 5.8 points per game. They have one double-digit performance, which was against the Giants in week 3 when they scored 13. They have no negative-scoring performances, with their worst game being a two-point outing against the Chargers in week 1.
This week, the Chiefs are playing the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs have had a brutal schedule to start the season and their defense has held up with no catastrophic performances. This will be an easier game, as Las Vegas can’t consistently run the ball and quarterback Geno Smith has struggled with turnovers. The Chiefs are rostered in just 13.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
Carolina has a below-average fantasy defense, ranking 20th at 4.7 points per game. They have one double-digit scoring outing, which was against the Falcons in week 3 when they put up 17 points. The Panthers have one negative-scoring game, which was against the Patriots in week 4.
In week 7, the Panthers play the New York Jets. While the Jets played the Broncos close in London, they really struggled passing the ball and scoring points. Carolina doesn’t have the best defense, but they are capable of having a solid performance. They can be started in desperation. The Panthers are rostered in 0.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Giants have a bad fantasy defense, ranking 28th in the league at 2.2 points per game. Their best performance of the season was in week 6 against the Eagles, when they tallied eight points, showing some potential. They have one negative scoring game, which was in week 2 against the Cowboys.
The matchup for the Giants this week is against the Denver Broncos. Denver’s offense hasn’t been as efficient this year as they were last year and they are returning from London. New York’s pass rush impacted Philadelphia in week 6 and they can probably keep that momentum going against the Broncos. The Giants are rostered in just 18.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Chargers have an above-average fantasy defense, ranking 11th in the NFL at 6.3 points per game. They have one double-digit game this season, which was in week 2 against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chargers have no negative scoring games this season, with their lowest score being two, which has happened twice.
In week 7, the Chargers play the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have played good football this season and score 32.3 points per game. They haven’t played a good defense in a few weeks and have to travel to the West Coast for this game. The Chargers can have a solid performance, but it isn’t a sure-fire thing. They are currently rostered in 27.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
New Orleans has a decent fantasy defense, scoring 5.8 points per game and ranking 12th. They have one double-digit scoring game, which was an 18-point performance against the New York Giants in week 5. Their one negative scoring game was a -1 point outing against the Seattle Seahawks in week 3.
This week, the Saints play the Chicago Bears. Chicago is coming off of a short week as they have to play on Monday Night Football in week 6. The Bears score 25.3 points per game, but have played some easy defenses, which has boosted them. The Saints should only be played in desperation. They are rostered in just 4.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
