One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 7. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
The Patriots have the seventh-ranked fantasy defense with an average of 9.3 points per game. They have two straight double-digit scoring performances against Detroit and Cleveland. A pair of four-point performances were their lowest outputs of the year. They have six interceptions, 17 sacks and two touchdowns.
In week 7, the Patriots play Chicago. The Bears score just 15.5 points per game and have had a tough time throwing the football this season. New England should be able to have a productive game against them. They are rostered in just 22.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Jets have surprisingly done well on defense, as they rank ninth with 9.0 points per game. They have three straight double-digit scoring performances with their best coming against Green Bay when they scored 21. Their worst game was against the Browns when they registered -1 points. Robert Salah’s team has seven interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 14 sacks.
After they played so well against the Packers, the Jets play the Broncos in week 7. The Broncos will be on a short week and have been struggling mightily this season. With the extra day, the Jets could play as well as they did against the Packers. They are available in over 98 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Dolphins have had a tumultuous season defensively, ranking 30th and scoring 3.2 points per game. In week 1, the Dolphins scored 19 points against the Patriots for their season-high. They have had two negative-scoring performances this season. Miami has one interception, three fumble recoveries and 12 sacks.
Pittsburgh travels to Miami to take on the Dolphins in week 7. The offense has not had much success this season. After Mitch Trubisky started the year off under center, Kenny Pickett then stepped in. Pickett now is in concussion protocol so Trubisky will be back at quarterback. Either way, the Dolphins should be able to make things tough on the Steelers. They are rostered in 30.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
Cincinnati is the 11th-ranked fantasy defense, which scores 5.3 points per game. They have a zero-point performance, which happened against the Saints in week 6. Their best performance came against the Jets when they scored 15 fantasy points. The Bengals have five interceptions, three fumble recoveries and nine sacks on the season.
The week 7 matchup for the Bengals is with the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta scores 24.9 points per game, but their offense can be one-dimensional. If the Bengals can stop the run, they can have a successful fantasy matchup. They are rostered in 48 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Raiders rank 29th in fantasy defense at 3.0 points per game. They had a 13-point performance against the Broncos for their season-high. A -1-point outing against the Chargers in week 1 is their worst game of the season. They have two interceptions, one fumble recovery and eight sacks.
While Las Vegas doesn’t have the best defense, they do have a favorable matchup in week 7. They play the Texans, who are scoring just 17.6 points per game. With the Raiders coming off a bye, they should be well-prepared for this game. They are rostered in just 1.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
