One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 6. (Note: All defense mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Washington Football Team
Washington has been an average fantasy defense this season. That is mostly because their 17-point performance against Philadelphia in the home opener is carrying them. They still have solid defensive players and they have a good matchup this week.
This week, Washington plays the Giants, who have struggled turning over the ball this season. They allow defenses to score a lot of points, including the Cowboys, who were the worst fantasy defense heading into the week. Washington is available in over 90 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Miami Dolphins
Miami has had some good and some bad games defensively this season, making them an average fantasy defense. They have the capability to put up a lot of points, as they have two double-digit performance, with one coming against Jacksonville and another coming against San Francisco 49ers.
For week 6, the Dolphins play the Jets. The Jets give opposing defenses the best chance to score points in fantasy. With Adam Gase at the helm it looks like it is a safe bet to consider starting opposing defenses against him. The Dolphins are available in virtually all ESPN leagues.
3. New York Giants
It may be surprising, but the Giants rank as the 11th best fantasy defense. They have scored positive points in four out of five weeks. The Giants scored eight points against the Cowboys and nine points against the Bears this season.
In week 6, the Giants play Washington. Washington pulled Dwayne Haskins and inserted Kyle Allen and Alex Smith into the game this week. This will benefit opposing defense. The Giants are owned in just 1.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Carolina Panthers
Although they had a rough first game, the Panthers’ young defense has gotten better throughout the season. They are the 18th-ranked fantasy defense and have played good offenses this season. This week, they have a chance to put up points again.
The Panthers play the Bears this week. Chicago has struggled to be explosive on offense, but they have protected the football. Carolina has two interceptions and five forced fumbles, so they should be to cause turnovers and put up fantasy points. They are available in 98 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Tennessee Titans
The Titans will have a short week with a game on Tuesday against the Bills. They do have some mixed results so far, as they have only scored five total points in three games. Tennessee does have a talented defense though and need to start proving it.
Houston got their first win after firing Bill O’Brien. They still have a shaky offensive line and aren’t the greatest team overall. If Tennessee can recover in time, they could be a solid fantasy start if a manager is desperate. The Titans are owned in 11.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
