One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 4. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
1. Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals play on Monday Night Football for week 3, but in the first two games of the season, they rank as the 18th fantasy defense at seven points per game. They scored four points against the Patriots in week 1 and 10 points against the Chiefs in week 2.
In week 4, the Bengals play the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers looked much better with Andy Dalton at quarterback, but that could be a short-term boost from starting a new quarterback. Overall, the Panthers are scoring just 16.3 points per game. The Bengals should be able to take advantage. They are rostered in just 33 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Minnesota Vikings
It isn’t often that the top fantasy defense is available in most leagues. The Vikings are averaging 15.7 fantasy points per game. They have three double-digit scoring outings in three weeks. Minnesota has played the Giants, 49ers and Texans, so they are doing it against good competition.
The Vikings play the Packers in week 4. They have won two games without starting quarterback Jordan Love. Whether he suits up or not, the Vikings have a diverse scheme under Brian Flores. Pick up the Vikings’ defense now and it could be worth it down the stretch, as well as this week. They are rostered in just 20.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are the 30th-ranked fantasy defense, averaging 0.0 points per game. They scored one point against the Chargers and then four against the Ravens. Unfortunately, they scored -4 against the Panthers in week 3.
Las Vegas will take on the Cleveland Browns in week 4. The Browns are averaging just 16.7 points per game, which ranks near the bottom of the league. While the Raiders had a bad game in week 3, they should be able to bounce back against the Browns. The Raiders are rostered in 30.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Tennessee Titans
Tennessee ranks as the 22nd fantasy defense at 4.3 points per game. They have scored seven, four and two points respectively. So far they have matched up with the Bears, Jets and Packers.
This week, the Titans are playing the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins didn’t look great against the Seahawks with Tua Tagovialoa out at quarterback. To make things worse, backup Skylar Thompson also left this game with an injury. It is a risk to play the Titans because of the skill position talent in Miami, but they could make the most of the quarterback situation they are going up against. They are rostered in just 3.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Chicago Bears
Chicago ranks as the third-best fantasy defense in the league this season at 12 points per game. They scored 26 points in week 1 against the Titans. In the two following weeks against the Texans and Colts, they scored five points in each game.
In week 4, the Bears play the Los Angeles Rams. It looked like the Rams could struggle in week 3 after having so many injuries, but they ended up defeating the 49ers. The injuries could catch up to them this week and the Bears do have a solid defense. Chicago is rostered in just 36.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
