One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 3. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
The Packers’ fantasy defense currently ranks fifth in the league at 8.5 points per game. They scored 11 points in week 1 against the Lions and six points against the Commanders in week 2.
In week 3, the Packers are playing the Cleveland Browns. The Packers have had extra time to prepare for this game and the Browns score just 16.5 points per game. Green Bay’s pass rush can impact Joe Flacco and the Browns likely won’t be able to run the ball well. The Packers are rostered in just 44.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
As of this writing, the Buccaneers have only played one game. They scored no points against the Falcons in week 1 and rank 30th in the league. They allowed 20 points and registered just one sack.
In week 3, the Buccaneers will play the New York Jets. After a good week 1 in which they scored 32 points, the offense faltered in week 2, scoring just 10 points against the Bills. Justin Fields went 3/11 for 27 yards and backup Tyrod Taylor played a bit. Todd Bowles has a defense that can be tough to crack. The Buccaneers are rostered in just 14.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Colts have a good fantasy defense, ranking eighth in the league at 7.5 points per game. They scored 14 fantasy points in week 1 against the Dolphins and one point in week 2 against the Broncos. They have three interceptions, one fumble recovery and three sacks on the season.
The week 3 game for the Colts will be against the Tennessee Titans. Rookie Cam Ward has shown some flashes, but the Titans are scoring just 15.5 points per game and have had major communication issues. The Colts should be able to limit the scoring and create some turnovers, especially against a quarterback like Ward, who likes to take chances. Indianapolis is currently rostered in 36.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Chiefs have had a below-average fantasy defense so far, ranking 23rd at 3.0 points per game. They scored two points against the Chargers in week 1 and four against the Eagles last week. They have five sacks, but no turnovers on the year.
In week 3, the Chiefs matchup with the New York Giants. The Giants scored just six points in week 1 against the Commanders, but improved to score 37 points against the Cowboys in week 2. That may be more of a problem with the Cowboys’ defense than a sign of life for the Giants. The Chiefs are desperate for a win and should be able to shut down Russell Wilson. They are rostered in 12.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
It may be a bit surprising, but the Atlanta Falcons have the best fantasy defense in the league at 12 points per game. They scored just three points against the Buccaneers in week 1, but had an amazing game against the Vikings in week 2, scoring 21 points. They have two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and seven sacks on the season.
The week 3 games for the Falcons is against the Carolina Panthers. After looking lost in week 1 against the Jaguars, scoring just 10 points, they put up 22 points against the Cardinals. A lot of the points against the Cardinals came with the game already in hand. Atlanta has a young defense and a lot of their rookies are producing early. They could have a big day against the Panthers to really announce their presence. The Falcons are rostered in just 1.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
