One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 2. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
1. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts scored two fantasy points as a defense in week one. They had four sacks and a blocked punt. It was an impressive performance against the Texans, who figure to have a solid offense this season.
In week 2, the Colts play the Green Bay Packers. The Packers lost quarterback Jordan Love to an injury at the end of week 1. He will be out for 3-6 weeks. That means newly acquired Malik Willis or Sean Clifford will be starting in his place. The Colts have a good enough defense to take advantage of the situation. Indianapolis is rostered in 4.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Los Angeles Chargers
The defense played great in Jim Harbaugh’s first game as head coach. They notched 15 points with four sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception. It was against the Raiders, who won’t have a great offense, but it was a good start for a new coaching staff.
This week, the Chargers play the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers showed that they will continue to struggle this season, as they scored just 10 points against the Saints. Bryce Young threw two interceptions and their leading rusher had just 22 yards. The Chargers can have another big week to start the season. They are available in nearly 90 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Houston Texans
The Texans played the Colts in week 1 and scored four fantasy points. They had two sacks and one interception. Indianapolis got some big plays off, but that also fits the personnel they have and may not be a constant for the Texans’ defense.
In week 2, the Texans play the Chicago Bears. The Bears defeated the Titans in week 1, but were bolstered by a defensive touchdown and a special teams touchdown. They have a rookie quarterback in Caleb Williams, who struggled in week 1. DeMeco Ryan’s defense could give him problems. The Texans are rostered in 15.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville played a good Miami offense in week 1. They held them to 20 points, but didn’t earn any fantasy points. Their pass rush was decent, as they notched three sacks. Overall it was a tough opponent and they did decently.
The Jaguars play the Cleveland Browns in week 2. Deshaun Watson was miserable in week 1 against the Cowboys. They were without their two starting tackles, but didn’t look good otherwise. Jacksonville can have a better performance against Cleveland this week. They are rostered in 32.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia played Green Bay in Brazil for the first week of the NFL season. They scored no fantasy points, allowing the Packers to score 24 points. The Eagles had two sacks and an interception against the Packers.
In week 2, the Eagles play the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons only scored 10 points in week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Kirk Cousins struggled. Philadelphia has plenty of talent and can play better in week 2. The Eagles are rostered in just 14.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
