One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 2. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
The Giants scored just one point as a fantasy defense, ranking near the bottom of the league. They had no impact plays to help their rankings, which included sacks, fumble recoveries and interceptions. It may sound crazy, but the defense and special teams didn’t play that poorly, but the Giants’ offense did, which set the defense up for no success.
Things get easier for the Giants in week 2, as they take on the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals scored 16 points in their first game against the Commanders. Their only touchdown came on a fumble recovery on defense, so their offense still has a lot to prove. Josh Dobbs is the starting quarterback and he just joined the team right before the season started. The Giants are rostered in just 2.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
In week 1, the Broncos lost their opening game to the Raiders 17-16. The good news is they allowed just 16 points and their defense still has plenty of talent. They also had some impact plays for fantasy, with two sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery. In total, they scored five fantasy points.
The Broncos play the Washington Commanders in week 2. Washington scored 20 points in week 1, but it was against the Cardinals, who are projected to be one of the worst teams in the league. The Broncos can have a big week 2 and are only rostered in 7.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Colts outperformed expectations in week 1 against the Jaguars. Their defense scored 11 fantasy points, ranking them pretty highly for a fantasy defense. They scored a touchdown, had one interception, one fumble recovery and two sacks.
Indianapolis will play Houston in week 2, which is a divisional game. The Texans scored just nine points against the Ravens in week 1. The Colts have plenty of talent on their defense and could pressure rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud into mistakes. Currently, the Colts are available in over 99 percent of ESPN leagues.
The post-Aaron Rodgers era started off well for the Packers, as they got a win fueled by their defense. They allowed 20 points to Chicago, but they scored 14 fantasy points. Green Bay scored one touchdown, had one fumble recovery, one interception and four sacks.
Now the Packers will take on the Falcons. Atlanta scored 24 points in their season opener against Carolina. It should be noted that the Panthers are coming off having the top pick in the NFL Draft and are not expected to be competitive. If the Packers play anything like they did in week 1, they can have a good day. They are rostered in just under 50 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Buccaneers had a lot of change this offseason, but were able to get a week 1 victory over the Vikings. Their defense allowed just 17 points, which is encouraging since the Vikings had a pretty good offense last season. They had one interception, two fumble recoveries and two sacks in week 1.
In week 2, the Buccaneers will play the Chicago Bears. The Bears scored 20 points against the Packers in week 1, but really struggled to get things together until late. Their offensive line showed plenty of weaknesses that can be exploited by the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay is available in over 91 percent of ESPN leagues.
