One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions almost every week to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 17. (Note: All defense mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
The Packers have a middle of the road fantasy defense this season, ranking 18th in the league. They have three double-digit scoring performances this year. This includes a 13-point performance against the Vikings this past week on Monday Night Football.
This week, Green Bay plays the Detroit Lions, who will be starting David Blough at quarterback. They rank 21st against opposing defenses this season, but with Blough at quarterback they are much worse. Green Bay’s defense is owned in 39.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
Cleveland has a below-average fantasy defense, at 24th in the league. What is really bringing their ranking down is two straight -4 point performances. They still have three double-digit scoring performances this year.
Their matchup this week is against the Cincinnati Bengals. While the Bengals did just score 35 points against the Miami Dolphins, their offense has struggled all season. The Browns should be able to bounce back in this game. They are owned in 44.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
While they may not get much press, the Buccaneers have a good fantasy defense this year, ranking ninth in the league. Tampa Bay has five double-digit performances on the season and they are coming off two straight solid performances.
Now, the Bucs play the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta has gone off offensively in some games, but still rank 14th against opposing defenses on the season. The Bucs are owned in 80 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Falcons are another defense that can be streamed this week. They rank 24th in fantasy scoring with a mixture of good and bad performances. Atlanta has five double-digit scoring performances this season, which includes the last three games.
The game this week against the Buccaneers provides a big opportunity for the Falcons. Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston is the most turnover-prone player in the league. The Falcons can have a big game in this one. They are available in almost 90 percent of ESPN leagues.
Kansas City is another fantasy defense that is probably undervalued. They rank 12th this year as a fantasy defense and have six double-digit scoring performances. This includes two 20-point performances. Starting in week 11, they haven’t scored less than eight points.
This week, they play the Chargers who rank in the middle of the pack against opposing defenses. Philip Rivers has been struggling this year, which should provide some chances for the Chiefs. They are available in over 56 percent of ESPN leagues.
