Fantasy Football Defenses to Stream Week 16

Joe DiTullioBy Joe DiTullioDecember 20, 2021Updated:December 19, 20224 Mins Read

One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 16. (Note: All defense mentioned are rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)

*All stats and rankings from before Monday Night Football

1. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have had a below-average fantasy defense this year, ranking 24th and scoring 3.9 points per game. They have had two negative-scoring performances this season, coming against the Chiefs and Browns. Their one double-digit scoring performance came against the Bengals in week 13.

This week the Chargers play the Texans, who score just 14.8 points per game. The Texans are without a lot of players who they started the season with and don’t have much talent on their roster. With the Chargers fighting for a playoff spot they will want to play their best. They are rostered in just 33 percent of ESPN leagues.

2. Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia has had an average fantasy defense that ranks 16th in the league at 6.1 points per game. They have three negative-scoring outings on the season. On the flip side, they have scored double-digit points four times this year.

They have been an erratic defense, but the matchup this week favors them, as they play the Washington Football Team. Washington scores 20.5 points per game, which ranks in the bottom half of the league. On top of that, Philadelphia is coming off of a bye and should be well-prepared for this game. The Eagles are rostered in just 34.9 percent completion.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have one of the worst fantasy defenses in the league, ranking 31st and scoring 2.1 points per game. They have scored negative points five different times this season. Jacksonville has scored double-digit points, just one time, which ironically came against the Bills.

This week, the Jaguars are playing the New York Jets. The Jets score 17.9 points per game, which is 27th in the league. Their offense leads the league with 36 giveaways on the year. Jacksonville should at least be able to have a decent-scoring game. They are available in 83.5 percent of ESPN leagues.

4. Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta is another bad fantasy defense this season, ranking 29th at 2.6 points per game. They have three negative-scoring games on the season. The Falcons have recorded just one double-digit scoring game this year. They have 16 total takeaways.

In week 16, the Falcons play the Detroit Lions. Although the Lions are coming off of a big win, they score just 17.4 points per game. Detroit has some injuries in the backfield, which will make the game harder on them. They are currently roster in just 7.2 percent of ESPN leagues.

5. New York Jets

The Jets have the worst fantasy defense in the league, scoring 1.4 points per game. They have four negative-scoring performances on the season. Two of their games have resulted in double-digit points this season and each has come in the last four weeks.

As mentioned, the Jets play the Jaguars. Jacksonville has fired Urban Meyer and the team only scores 14 points per game, which is the worst in the league. The Jaguars have 25 turnovers on the season, which is tied for second-worst in the league, so the Jets could make some big plays. New York’s defense is available in over 97 percent of ESPN leagues.
