One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 14. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
The Texans have had a below-average season defensively, as they score 5.8 points per game, ranking them 25th in the league. They only have two negative-scoring games, which were against the Colts and Jaguars. On the other hand, they have four double-digit scoring outings to pump up their average.
In week 14, the Texans play the New York Jets. The Jets have turned the offense over to Tim Boyle in hopes that things would improve, but they have scored just nine points per game over their last five games. Houston can take advantage and have a big day. They are rostered in 14.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
Indianapolis has had a solid fantasy defense this season, ranking 11th at 8.3 points per game. They have scored negative points against the Rams and Saints. The Colts have five double-digit scoring performances on the season, with their season-high being 27 against the Panthers.
The week 14 matchup for the Colts is the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincinnati is not the same team without Joe Burrow and scored just 10 points against the Steelers without him. On top of that, Cincinnati will be on a short week, as they still have to play Monday Night Football. Indianapolis could be trending toward another double-digit scoring game. They are available in nearly 75 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Packers have had an average defense this year, ranking 17th at 5.9 points per game. They have no negative-scoring games, which helps their standing. Green Bay has scored double digits four times, which were against the Bears, Raiders, Rams and Lions.
The matchup this week for the Packers will be the New York Giants. They score 14.3 points per game, which ranks 31st in the league. Tommy DeVito has had some nice moments at quarterback, but has been inconsistent. The Packers can at least have a solid day. They are rostered in 24.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
While the offense is struggling, the defense is still battling hard, ranking 23rd at 5.5 points per game. They have no negative scoring games on the season. The Patriots have two double-digit scoring games this season, which shows they are pretty consistent, without too many booms or busts.
New England plays Pittsburgh in week 14. The Steelers score just 16 points per game and starting quarterback Kenny Pickett had to leave their most recent game with an ankle injury. It should be a low-scoring game, which will allow the Patriots’ defense to thrive. They are rostered in 32.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
Detroit has had a subpar fantasy defense this season, scoring 5.2 points per game and ranking 25th. They have four negative scoring games, which came against the Packers, the Chargers, the Ravens and the Seahawks. Their three double-digit games were a result of their matchups with the Raiders, the Packers and the Falcons.
They play the Chicago Bears in week 14. The Bears score 20.2 points per game, but have had some inconsistencies in their offense. Justin Fields is back, but they scored just 10 points against the Vikings in week 12. Detroit could fare similar to their six-point game against the Bears earlier this season. They are available in nearly 70 percent of ESPN leagues.
