One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 12. (Note: All defense mentioned are rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
*All stats and rankings from before Monday Night Football
1. Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears have had an average fantasy defense, scoring 5.8 points per game and ranking 15th in the league. They have three negative scoring performances on the season, with the most recent coming in week 8. The Bears have scored double-digits as a defense four times, including in week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens.
In week 12, the Bears play the Lions on Thanksgiving. It will be a short week for the Lions to prepare for the Bears’ defense. The Lions have had trouble scoring all season, averaging just 16 points per game. What might make things tougher is that Jared Goff missed the Lions’ last game and Tim Boyle had to start. The Bears should be able to take advantage if Boyle starts. They are rostered in just 12.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have not played well defensively and rank 27th in the league with 2.7 points scored per game. They have just one negative-scoring performance, which came against the Browns in week 5. The defense has not registered a double-digit performance, but they do have a season-high of nine points scored against the Raiders in week 4.
This week, the Chargers play the Denver Broncos, who score just 20 points per game. They figure to play a low-scoring game and the Chargers defense could step up. In the start of the season, the Chargers played many high-powered offenses and could do better than their scoring average against the Broncos. The Chargers are rostered in just 8.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta has one of the worst fantasy defenses this season, ranking 31st in the league with 1.5 points per game. They have scored negative points in three different games, all of which have come against NFC East teams. The Falcons haven’t registered a double-digit performance this season and have a season-high of six points scored, which came against the Jets.
In week 12, the Falcons play the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars score just 15.9 points per game this season, which ranks 31st in the league. While the Falcons may not have the talent on defense to have a huge game, playing the Jaguars gives them a chance to play decently and to have one of their better weeks. They are rostered in just 7.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Washington Football Team
Washington has been below average defensively this season. They rank 25th in the league, scoring 3.2 points per game. WFT has scored negative points once this year, against the Bills in week 3. They have no double-digit performances, but have a season-high of nine points, which came against the Broncos in week 8.
This may be a week to keep defenses already on the roster, as Washington is no guarantee to play great. They play the Seattle Seahawks, who are scoring just 19.4 points per game. With Russell Wilson getting more comfortable with his injury, they should be able to put up more points, so Washington should only played in desperation. Washington is rostered in just 30.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Seattle Seahawks
Seattle hasn’t had their typical defense this year, as they rank 29th in fantasy at 2.2 points per game. The Seahawks have four negative-scoring performances with the most recent coming against Arizona in week 11. Their best performance came against Jacksonville, when they scored 12 points.
The week 12 matchup is with the Washington Football Team. Washington scores just 21.2 points per game. It figures to be a low-scoring matchup between the two teams. Like Washington’s defense, Seattle should only be played in extreme desperation. They are rostered in just 7.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
