One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 10.
(Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
The Browns have had a quality fantasy defense this season, ranking eighth at 7.9 points per game. They have two double-digit scoring games this year, which were against Green Bay and Miami. Cleveland ahs no negative-scoring games, but they did score no points against the Steelers in week 6.
This week the Browns are coming off a bye to play the New York Jets. The Jets score 21 points per game and that number is inflated by them scoring 39 points in their last game against a putrid Cincinnati defense. They have had quarterback issues and haven’t played well against quality defenses at a consistent level. The Browns are rostered in 29.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
Buffalo has a solid fantasy defense, scoring 6.4 points per game and ranking 15th in the league. They have two double-digit scoring games, which were against the Jets and the Panthers. Their lone negative scoring outing was against the Ravens in week 1.
In week 10, the Bills are playing the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are scoring just 20.0 points per game, ranking 26th in the league. They have clear locker room issues and have been inconsistent at best on offense. The Bills seem to have things coming together as the season goes on. They are rostered in 36.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Panthers rank 17th as a fantasy defense, playing solid football and scoring 5.2 points per game. Their two double-digit scoring performances were against the Falcons and the Jets. They have two negative-scoring games, which came against the Patriots and Bills.
A divisional matchup awaits the Panthers in week 10, as they play the Saints. New Orleans scores just 15.3 points per game, ranking 31st in the league. They scored just 10 points against the Rams in week 9, which was rookie Tyler Shough’s first start. Carolina can take advantage of the rookie starting in a bad situation and have a big game. The Panthers are rostered in just 4.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
New Orleans has had a below-average fantasy defense, ranking 21st at 4.8 points per game. They had one double-digit scoring game, which was against the Giants in week 5 when they notched 18 points. The team has two negative-scoring games, which were against the Seahawks and the Rams.
This week, the Saints play the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers score just 18.9 points per game, which ranks 27th in the league. Carolina picked up a win over the Packers last week, but scored just 16 points. They have not scored more than 16 points in a game since they played the Cowboys four games ago. The Saints can have a good performance for a fantasy manager in need. They are rostered in 1.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Jets have a bad fantasy defense, ranking 28th at 2.3 points per game. New York has one double-digit scoring game, which was against the Denver Broncos in week 6. They have three negative scoring outings, which were against the Bills, Cowboys and Bengals.
In week 10, the Jets play the Cleveland Browns. The Browns score 15.8 points per game, ranking 30th in the league. Cleveland has trouble attacking downfield with Dillon Gabriel at quarterback so the Jets can be a bit more aggressive. They should only be started in desperation, as they could have another bad performance with how poorly they have played this season. The Jets are rostered in nine percent of ESPN leagues.
