NFL Week Five Final DFS Player Pool:
Last Updated: 10/07 12:55 PM EST
Quarterbacks:
Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins
There are plenty of viable quarterback options this week. These players don’t need much analysis. Matt Ryan has been on fire, passing for over 700 yards and eight touchdowns the last two weeks. Cam Newton has more upside than virtually every quarterback on the slate against this average at best Giants defense. It’s the third quarterback listed that will likely go overlooked. Kirk Cousins has been phenomenal thus far and this matchup against the Eagles will play out similarly to the Rams. This Vikings line will be dominated by the Eagles’ front seven, and they will quickly resort to high volume passing to sustain drives. We saw Marcus Mariota shred this defense last weekend, and Cousins with his weapons will be just as successful. If you’re looking to fade the Atlanta-Pittsburgh game outright, the Minnesota-Philadelphia contest has playmakers to keep pace with Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger.
UPDATE: My third quarterback is now Derek Carr over Kirk Cousins. This is the result of a change in my running back on one cash lineup. My explanation is in the running back section.
Running Backs:
Melvin Gordon, James Conner, Joe Mixon, T.J. Yeldon, Aaron Jones
For the first time all season, all of the running backs in my final player pool were talked about on the Suck My DFS Podcast and I feel great about all of them. While I’m afraid of fading Todd Gurley as seven-point favorite in Seattle, but, this could be the first game he fails to make cash value. I want to specify that Aaron Jones is not on my two cash game lineups. You could argue he has the best matchup of any running back on the slate; however, his unpredictable volume makes him exclusively a GPP option on FanDuel.
UPDATE: I have removed Joe Mixon from my cash game lineup. While it’s small, Cameron Wake will be out for the Dolphins and he is a pass rushing specialist. Meaning, the Dolphins will have better personnel in the game to combat the run, which changes Mixon’s matchup. It’s also not great to hear that the Bengals coaching staff has talked about limiting his workload in his first game back. I decided to move up to Conner from Mixon, which forced changes at my quarterback and wide receiver positions on that lineup.
Wide Receivers:
Adam Thielen, Calvin Ridley, Emmanuel Sanders, Tyler Boyd, John Brown
I’ll keep it short. Adam Thielen has been targeted at least 10 times and accumulated over 100 yards receiving in each of his first four games. The Eagles secondary, no matter who Thielen draws, will not pose a threat. Calvin Ridley and Emmanuel Sanders excellent mid-range options. Ridley, while he can’t sustain his current production, is in a great spot given the two high-powered offenses squaring off against each other. And with Julio Jones playing opposite him, he’ll see plenty of single coverage.
Emmanuel Sanders has cooled down after a hot start, but he has a great individual matchup against Buster Skrine. If he can get competent quarterback play, he’ll produce cash value. If it weren’t for my one Joe Mixon share, Tyler Boyd would be on both my cash lineups. Both Tyler Boyd and John Brown are lower budget options who have track records of producing, or, seeing high target volume.
UPDATE: Since I’ve pivoted off Joe Mixon and off Kirk Cousins to afford James Conner, Tyler Boyd has taken the place of John Brown on my second cash lineup.
Tight Ends:
Vance McDonald
Last week paying up for Zach Ertz was the right move, however, the rest of my lineup was not strong enough. I’m having trouble fitting in a top tier tight end this week, so, I decided to take a cheap player in the highest profile game of the week. There’s a substantial chance that McDonald busts, but I’m willing to take that risk given his near minimum price.
UPDATE: I have now added a second tight end to my lineups. Hayden Hurst will be making his NFL debut today against the Browns as a starter. While the Ravens have rotated multiple tight ends, it’s because of Hurst’s absence. He was their first pick in the 2018 draft and performed very well in the preseason. I also love limiting my bust exposure to Vance McDonald and this Atlanta-Pittsburgh game as a whole. Given Hurst’s projected low ownership, he’s the tight end my on my third lineup and on one of my cash lineups.
Defense/Special Teams:
Tennessee Titans
The Titans seem to be the most logical cash defense on FanDuel. Despite being on the road, the Buffalo Bills are gifting points to opposing defenses, Minnesota game aside. The Bills have surrendered the most sacks per game this year with 5.2, and Titans defense is sacking the opposing quarterback at the 7th highest rate.
NFL Week Five Final DFS Lineups:
Last Updated: 10/07 12:55 PM EST
The first two lineups are represented equally among my 50/50 contests. The third lineup is being used in all my single entry contests between 100-1,176 people. And just for full disclosure, I am playing in one large field, single entry tournament with the final lineup as well.
