5 Players to Add in Fantasy Football Week 17

Publish Date: December 24, 2019

Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are five players to add in fantasy football week 17. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)

1. Travis Homer, RB, Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks have turned to Travis Homer to handle the running back duties. He had five carries for 16 yards and six receptions for 26 yards in Seattle’s contest against Arizona. His workload should increase in week 17.

Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and C.J. Prosise have all been lost for the year. Familiar faces Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin have both been added to the roster, but will take some time to get going. Homer should be the lead back for at least week 17. He is available in virtually every ESPN league.

2. Greg Ward Jr., WR, Philadelphia Eagles

With the injuries to the wide receiver position, the Eagles have had to turn to some new players. Ward Jr. was a wide receiver turned quarterback in college, but is now back at wide receiver making plays for Philadelphia. He has 19 points over the last two weeks and has become more familiar with Carson Wentz.

Ward should be utilized a lot considering the Eagles still haven’t clinched a playoff spot. He is owned in just 17.4 percent of ESPN leagues.

3. Dallas Goedert, TE, Philadelphia Eagles

Because the wide receivers are injured, Dallas Goedert is getting more attention now too. He is the ninth-ranked tight end this season. Against the Cowboys, Goedert finished the game with nine receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles may use Goedert more often because Zach Ertz is dealing with a rib injury. Even if he plays, Goedert is worth adding. Goedert is owned in just under 43 percent of ESPN leagues.

4. Kerryon Johnson, RB, Detroit Lions

Last week, Johnson came back off of IR. He eased into things with 10 carries for 42 yards and one reception for one yard. Johnson figures to get some more work in week 17, when the Lions play the Packers, who have had a tough time stopping the run this season.

Johnson should be added, but whether a fantasy owner plays him is risky. He is owned in 39 percent of ESPN leagues.

5. DeAndre Washington, RB, Oakland Raiders

With Josh Jacobs injured, Washington has been getting a lot of work for the Raiders. He had 23 carries for 85 yards and two receptions for 26 yards. Washington also had a touchdown in the game and is worth consideration for week 17.

Jacobs hasn’t been ruled out for week 17, but the Raiders may elect to stick with Washington after a solid performance. Washington is available in nearly 60 percent of ESPN leagues.
