It’s been almost two weeks since the streaming community was turned on its head. In late June, the hyper-popular Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm received a permanent ban from Twitch. With such a large personality being suddenly dropped from an equally large platform, there is plenty of speculation and theory-crafting going on around the internet. For the time being, here’s what is currently known about the Dr Disrespect situation.
In the afternoon of Thursday, June 26, the Twitter account “StreamerBans” posted a tweet citing that Dr Disrespect had been banned from Twitch. Although the post noted it was Dr Disrespect’s first ban, he was previously shortly banned after filming inside a men’s bathroom while attending E3.
The announcement of the ban was later confirmed by independent journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau. Notably, Slasher mentioned the ban was not due to a DMCA, as most fans had anticipated.
After the news broke out, Dr Disrespect did not respond to the initial news of the ban. It wasn’t until the following day the prominent streamer made his statement. To the surprise of many, Dr Disrespect was not informed of the reason for his removal from the platform.
Twitch still has not elaborated on the popular streamer’s ban. Even though Twitch typically does not disclose their reasoning behind most bans, this case becomes a bit different as the two parties had recently closed on a multi-year streaming deal. Banning a highly influential personality permanently would normally suggest a statement from Twitch, however they have remained quiet regarding the situation.
Unfortunately for fans and curious minds, there have been no updates regarding the Dr Disrespect ban. There are several rumors going around about Doc’s next step in his streaming career – whether it be signing to a new platform or doing something completely different. What is important to remember in the meantime is the possibility of something much more serious. Few members close to the situation alluded at the severity of the ban, stating how it is important to not mention full details to the public.
The reasoning for the ban remains a mystery, but people are speculating Dr Disrespects next move. Some believe he will simply move onto a new streaming platform. Others think he may hang up the persona entirely and start a new chapter. For the time being however, people will need to wait and see what happens next.
This is an ongoing story, and The Game Haus will provide updates as they become available.
