Questionable Madden 19 ratings: Green Bay Packers

Publish Date: July 22, 2018

The Game Haus will be analyzing the Madden 19 ratings of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. This article will examine the Green Bay Packers Madden 19 ratings.

Jake Ryan

Jake Ryan is a fine player. He is an alright piece that probably fits best as a backup linebacker. Considering the Packers current state of affairs on the defensive side of the football, he has been thrust into a starting role in Green Bay.

The run-stopping ability is there, but the pass-rush ability is lacking severely. In 43 games played, he has recorded only one sack. His tackling numbers actually took a hit last season, even though he played and started in more games than he did in 2016. He also has no interceptions, and only one forced fumble to his name in three years.

Thus, a 78 is too high. Other Packers with this rating include veterans like Tramon Williams and Lance Kendricks. Comparatively, Ryan is not as good or as valuable to the team as either of these players.

It is possible Madden is grading on potential, here. But with this upcoming season being his fourth in the league, the team should know they are not going to get splashy numbers from Jake Ryan, and accept him as a third down run-stopping specialist.

Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix

Clinton-Dix has played in every game since he was drafted in 2014. Taking the Packers’ ridiculous and shocking injury history into consideration during that time-frame, that is enough to have him ranked near the top of their defensive players.

An 87 is generous for a free safety that was a big part of the 23rd-worst pass defense in the NFL. He had three interceptions last year, which is not good, but not embarrassing. What is embarrassing, however, is the fact that he had a combined five yards on those interceptions.

For a player that is supposed to thrive on operating in space, that is not great. Certainly not worthy of a rating three points shy of 90. On top of that, he only had six pass defensed, no forced fumbles and no touchdowns in 16 games.

Bryan Bulaga

Sure, he was injured last year and only played in five games. But Bulaga is a right tackle that most any team would love to have. He has been a seminal piece of an up-and-down offensive line in Green Bay.

In his absence, the Pack’s offensive line was third-worst in the league. If he was healthy, rest assured that ranking would be much higher. An ACL tear is notoriously hard to come back from for anyone, let alone a 300-pound offensive lineman. But Bulaga has incredible football IQ and plays hard because he knows he is protecting one of the best quarterbacks to ever grace the NFL.

His 81 ranking is probably due to the questions the Madden crew has concerning the road back from his debilitating injury. But he deserves more than that. He is obviously one of the anchors of the line, and they truly suffer without his leadership.

Adjusted Rankings

Jake Ryan – 70 overall

Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix – 81 overall

Bryan Bulaga – 87 overall
