Moving forward, Overwatch 2 is moving towards a live-service model. With the start of each season, players gain access to new battle passes, which include brand new cosmetics. Players can earn gun charms, skins and even exclusive emotes depending on how far they progress through the battle pass.

Some fans were hesitant about the change to battle pass model. Some players were not excited to simply copy the content plan from other big games, and lose the lootbox model. However it appears the developers see the value of making the game free to play and having people simply pay for the content that they want. With a brand new store as well, there will certainly be plenty of new content for players to grab each and every season starting with the Overwatch 2 Season 1 start date.
