Overwatch 2 has been out for a few years now and has added some fun new heroes. They have ranged from new members of the Overwatch squad to the big bad leaders of Talon and some extra fun characters as well. But for new and possibly older fans looking to get into Overwatch, they may be wondering, are all Overwatch 2 Heroes Free? Here is the answer to that question.

As of the initial publishing date of this piece, Overwatch 2 Heroes are not Free. That will be changing with Overwatch Season 10 where they have decided to allow for all Heroes to be free.
Technically, Overwatch 2 heroes were free from the start. You had to buy the battle pass to get instant access to them or you could earn them through playing the game. This changed and had different iterations over the years after Overwatch 2 was launched.
They are likely making these changes in order to bring players back. Many, this writer included, wanted to play the new heroes but did not want to pay or play for them. This was a strategy seen with League of Legends and other hero or character-based games. Players in those games though normally earned in-game currency to be able to buy those characters or they could buy them with real money through a different in-game currency.
In essence, it was the same for Overwatch 2 but with dwindling player numbers, this will allow for players to come back and try new heroes on launch instead of waiting.
Venture will be coming with Overwatch 2 Season 10 and they will be hero number 40.
The next one to come out will be Space Ranger, or at least that is the name they are giving us for now. She will be getting her name revealed likely some time during the summer.
With the Overwatch 2 devs fully focused on PVP now with the loss of PVE, it is worth wondering if they will add more heroes moving forward at a quicker pace. With heroes being free this will incentivize players to come back more often and could entice them to stay.
