Alright, what’s the deal with these eye emojis?

Publish Date: September 2, 2018

If you’ve been keeping an eye on notable Overwatch Twitter accounts these past few days, you’ve definitely noticed a trend.

These eyes! They’re everywhere! What do they mean?

For most, it’s just another emoji. In this ridiculous Overwatch League off-season, though, it could mean everything – or nothing, really.

EnVyUs off-tank Caleb “McGravy” McGarvey was the first to post the onerous optics on Saturday, spurring rumors that he would be signed by EnVy’s parent team, the Dallas Fuel. With Seagull flying away, McGravy seems a logical fit in Dallas, especially considering Mickie’s newfound expertise with Brigitte.

Seems like a pretty sound theory, right? Maybe we’re figuring out this whole off-season thing, yeah?

WRONG. As if on cue, the floodgates opened, and a deluge of eyes came out.

Players, coaches, Bren – everyone crawled out of the woodwork all at once, plastering this ominous icon on their Twitter feeds for the masses to hungrily speculate on. People ate it up, too. Are aKm and Unkoe moving to the Paris team? Is Flame cleaning house in Houston, or Tucker Roberts in Philly? Is Bren just feeding as usual? Will we ever learn what Slasher’s been up to?

Unfortunately, this focal fusillade was designed to throw us off the scent of any real answers to those questions; while there may be a few solid leads to be found in those cold, dead pixels, we really won’t be able to know for sure until more well-connected community figures get their real eyes on some real facts.

Until then, enjoy the potential these peepers provide. While an emoji is a far cry from an official press release, it’s at least a way to pass the time waiting for the September 9th signing window to open. I, for one, am doing my best to cut through the chaos and find you guys some real news. So settle down, everyone –
