- Star War: Knights of the Old Republic
Let me start by saying this, have you ever wanted to be a Jedi? If not then you either do not like Star Wars (which is wrong on so many levels) or you’re one of those smuggler or bounty hunter lovers. KOTOR as it is affectionately known is by far my favorite game of all time. My love for this game is not just because I am a Star Wars fan, it was widely acclaimed and won many awards. Most importantly it won Game of the Year in 2003.
This game allowed you to become a Jedi but, without spoilers, you do not start off as a Jedi (technically). You travel worlds that were either mentioned in the movies or never thought of before. The graphics for the time were so well down and the experience was one to remember.
Bioware brought in perfect companion characters like Carth, Bastilla, and everyone’s favorite assassin droid HK-47. They are what made this game even better. You were never traveling alone as you could always bring two other people with you to fight through the Star Wars world.
Crafting your first lightsaber was quite the experience and it added something to the Star Wars world that had never really been looked at in depth outside of the books. You could see a Jedi Temple and what the universe was like 4,000 years before the events of the movies. It added an everlasting expansion to the Star Wars lore that is still being used today.
I feel like I have told you a lot and still have not referenced the biggest reason this game won Game of the Year, the story. This was an epic tale that took almost nothing from the movies. Every person you talk to has fantastic voice acting. The companions as I said are fantastic and the villains, Malek and the mysterious Revan are up there with Vader himself.
This was one of the first games to allow you to really choose good or evil, which if you like Star Wars even a little bit, you know this makes a huge difference. It was a game whose story changed depending on your decisions and it allowed you to basically craft your own story. Not to mention the twist near the end.
This game will most likely always be my favorite game. It is from my favorite universe and its story has yet to be matched in my opinion. The twist at the end alone makes it worth playing, but, the overall story is one of epic proportions and I must say if you’re a true Star Wars fan and you like video games you have to play this wonderful game.
This was one of the most fun pieces I have ever written. I hope that you all enjoyed it.
