McDonald’s Crew League x Gen.G Renewed Partnership

Publish Date: June 28, 2022

Gen.G and McDonald’s Franchisees have renewed the McDonald’s Crew League. Previously this was only in Southern California, Southern Plains (Kansas, Oklahoma), and the DMV regions (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia). But in this next iteration, it will be expanding into the Pacific Northwest. This will allow additional esports leagues to engage McDonald’s employees and gaming enthusiasts.

The Parties Involved

Mcdonald’s is a household name and the iconic golden arches are a staple in Americana. McDonald’s is the world’s leading global food service retailer with more than 39,000 locations in over 100 countries. Of those locations, approximately 95% of the restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local business owners.

Gen.G is an esport organization that is in many different games in both the United States and Asia. They were established in 2017, and are already ranked no. 6 in the inaugural Forbes list of the “World’s Most Valuable Esports Companies.” They are the only major esport organization that owns and operates top teams in China, South Korea, and the United States. All the teams and fans are united under the #TigerNation banner. The core mission of Gen.G is to help fans, as well as athletes, use the power that gaming and esports hold to get ahead in the global competition. Gen.G has quickly become a commercial leader in building a global, inclusive, and cross-cultural future for esports entertainment. What is it?

McDonald’s Crew League is designed to recruit as well as retain employees through gaming. The employees’ voices will be heard when it comes to what game they want to compete in. They will vote for the game that will be played for the McDonald’s Crew League. There will be prizes for the winners as well as the prestige that comes with the high honors of winning.

Collaboration with Gen.G

Gen.G has been a part of the McDonald’s Crew League in previous years. “We had such an amazing time in previous iterations of the McDonald’s Crew League, that we absolutely had to do it again and this time allow more to participate,” said Arnold Hurr, CEO of Gen.G. “At Gen.G, we’ve always been about building and connecting communities to bring people together on things they really enjoy. Continuing the comradery we’ve seen within the McDonald’s Crew League has been exciting to witness, and we can’t wait for the Pacific Northwest region to experience the same thing.”

The message of bringing the community together with the McDonald Crew League is on message for what Gen.G also practices within their own organization making the partnership ideal.

Currently, McDonald’s esports programming connects hundreds of employees in the Southern Plains, Southern California, Washington D.C., Baltimore, and broader Maryland. Making an esport league a no-brainer for the franchise.

When and how to watch

The Pacific Northwest region league kicked off and will have their playoffs on August 13th. While the Southern California, Southern Plains, and DMV region Crew Leagues will kick off their seasons on July 5, July 26, and August 23, with play-offs to follow respectively.

How to watch?

When the employees compete to qualify for a live playoff broadcast. It will be streamed on the Gen.G’s official twitch channel Twitch.tv/GenGesports. These live broadcasts will be hosted by local casters in each region.

Prizes

Prizes include a PS5 of Xbox Series, over $1,000 in Amazon gift cards for each region, Crew League T-shirts, as well as an exclusive belt for the winner, and a plaque for their franchise location.

“The employee experience has always been a key point in having McDonald’s employees feel at home and part of a larger community,” said Patricia Champers, VP, Director of Media and Partnerships. “We’re really excited to continue our partnership with an organization as prestigious as Gen.G and can’t wait to see the competitive spirit in our coops across the U.S.”

The Pacific Northwest expansion marks the fourth local market where McDonald’s franchisees and Gen.G are partnering together on esports programming to further engage employees.
